Our Rum and Spirits W.I.R.D 2000

Our Rum and Spirits WIRD W.I.R.D Rum Review by the fat rum pirateOur Rum and Spirits W.I.R.D. 2000. Our Rum and Spirits are an Independent bottler from Germany. They were set up by restauranter Christian Nagel who upon discovering how popular rum was becoming with his guests, decided to start importing and distributing rums which would be uniquely his.

W.I.R.D is the abbreviation of the West Indies Rum Distillery. This has recently been taken over by Alexandre Gabriel of Plantation Rum. Prior to this W.I.R.D only produced the Cockspur brand and survived mostly by selling bulk rum. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old

Kintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateKintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old. Kintra are a relatively new European Independent bottler. They began as so many do by bottling whiskies before moving, more recently onto rums.

Kintra hail from the Netherlands (which will be handy for the huge rum broker E.A Scheer). Most of their sales are racked up there. They also export to most of mainland Europe, Hong Kong and Japan. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Saint James Rhum Vieux 7 Year Old

Saint James Rhum Vieux 7 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSaint James Rhum Vieux 7 Year Old. Saint James are a Rhum Agricole producer from the island of Martinique. Back in 2014 they revamped and released a range of specific age statement rhums. A 7,12 and 15 year old made up the range. Today we will be looking at the youngest of those rhums.

Saint James have featured on the site before. I reviewed their Saint James Heritage rum which was a puzzling blend of caribbean rums and their own agricole rhum. I also reviewed their more regarded Rhum Ambre. This is a review I need to re-visit as my appreciation of Rhum Agricole has risen considerably since I wrote that back in 2013/4. Rum Nation Caroni 1999

Rum Nation Caroni 1999 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRum Nation Caroni 1999 bottled in 2015. Rum Nation have featured a little bit more on the site recently. I’ve had a few bits and bobs from them lying around for some time now. So I thought I would re-visit some of them and finalise the reviews.

The Caroni Distillery has been closed for a good while but the number of Independently bottled rums show no sign of slowing down. Rum Nation must also be one of the Independent bottlers that have quite a stock or access to a stock of Caroni casks. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Diplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum

Diplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDiplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum. Late in 2017 Diplomatico released two new expressions. These expressiona are designed to highlight the different types of rum that Diplomatico can produce at their distillery.

I do feel these releases have been produced to try and appeal to those who perhaps are more critical of Diplomatico’s sweetened rums – such as the Reserva Exclusiva, Single Vintage releases and their highest priced rum the Ambassador. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron Cartavio XO 18 Anos

Ron Cartavio XO Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon Cartavio XO is the top of the line for this Peruvian rum maker. It is now noted as being an 18 year old rum – it is no longer labelled as a Solera system rum. I reviewed their 12 “Year” Solera rum a while back and found it to be pretty average. Other than that my own experience of Peruvian rum has been with the frankly abominable Ron Millonario XO. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
