One of my first “Premium” rums was a bottle of Ron Barceló Imperial that I picked up for around £12 in Gibraltar circa 2012.

S.B.S. Dominican Republic Consuelo Single Origin Rum review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S. Dominican Republic Consuelo Single Origin Rum. This is not my first review of a rum from S.B.S. (Single Barrel Selection), who are the Independent bottling arm of Danish spirits distributor 1423.

It is however my first review in their Origin Series. This series is described by 1423 as

“The 1423 S.B.S Origin Selection is a series of handpicked unaged rum specifically chosen for their powerful profile and flavor. Hattiers Premium Reserve Rum

Hattiers Premium Reserve Rum Review by the fat rum pirateHattiers Premium Reserve Rum. Blended rum (particularly from multi islands) has been on the decline recently, in terms of new products. I can’t think of all that many multi island blends that have popped up recently. Unfortunately this has been mainly due to the sheer volume of Spiced Rum which is constantly entering the low and mid range of the market. Kirk and Sweeney Dominican Rum 12 Year

Kirk and Sweeney 12 year old rum review by the fat rum pirate Kirk and Sweeney Dominican Rum 12 Year. Kirk and Sweeney is an American rum “brand”. As well as having this rum their range also consists of a 18 year and 23 year old rum.

The company behind Kirk and Sweeney are 3 Badge Beverage Company from California. Kirk and Sweeney is named after a wooden schooner. This schooner, Kirk and Sweeney, was a rum running vessel which brought rum from the Caribbean to the Northeast Coast during Prohibition. The ship was captured off the coast of New York in 1924. Atlantico Gran Reserva

Atlantico Gran Reserva Rum Review by the fat rum pirateAtlantico Gran Reserva. Atlantico are a rum brand that hail from the Dominican Republic. In 2017 Atlantico had a complete re-brand of their rum range.

This particular bottling was the Private Cask – it is now renamed as the Gran Reserva. Other rums in the range are the White – Platino and the mid range rum the Reserva. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Dominican Republic is famous for the three B’s (Brugal, Barceló and Bermudez).
