Damoiseau Rhum Blanc 50% I’ve covered Guadeloupe’s rum distillery Damoiseau before. I’ve also got a few more of their rhums to cover in the future as well. Today I am taking a look at one of their more entry level products. In the shape of an white agricole rhum bottled at a hefty 50%.

A1710 La Perle Rare 2017 Canne Rouge R579. Or if you would prefer in English The Rare Pearl Red Cane. The R579 refers to the variety (is that the correct term?) of sugar cane used.
Set up in 2016 by Yves-Assier de Pompignan A1710 is a micro distillery situated at the Habitation du Simon, Martinique. It should not be confused with the nearby Distillerie du Simon, which is a much bigger, more established operation of course. That distillery produces rum for the Rhum Clement and Rhum J.M. brands, amongst others.
A1710 La Perle Brute 2017. This is a rhum which caused a bit of stir at the London Rumfest back in 2018. La Perle Brute, which translates to the Raw Pearl is a rhum that is distilled from sugarcane juice, rather than molasses.
Situated in the North East of the Caribbean island Martinique, which is already famous for Rhum Agricole, sits the Yves Assier de Pompignan distillery. A very small distillery, which currently only produces white rhum agricole.
That Boutique-y Rum Company Issan Rum Thailand. The Issan Distillery is situated in the North of Thailand. They release their own rums under the name of the distillery. I’m pretty sure they don’t have much of a distribution deal in Europe (particularly the UK) because I cannot recall seeing any of their own releases for sale here.
Diplomatico Planas. This is a white rum from the famous Venezuelan rum brand Diplomatico. Most wll known, without doubt for their Reserva Exclusiva. In a slightly different rum world to the one we know today, seen as one of the world’s best. In some circles, it perhaps still is.
For many rm enthusiasts though the Diplomatico name is synonymous with “added sugar”. The popularity of the Reserva Exclusiva was due too its smooth and sweet profile. Prior to any reliable testing being carried out, this was thought to be down to some exquisite blending techniques, that others simply could not replicate.
Clairin World Championship 2017. Importer and bottler Velier have created a bit of a stir over the past few years with a “new” type of rum (or should that be rhum?) called Clairin.
Hailing from Haiti Clairin is a spirit which has a lot in common with both Cachaca and Rhum Agricole. It is arguably even more “rustic” in its production than both those cane spirits. It is produced by almost “one man band” style micro distilleries on very small creole stills.
Cor Cor Red Okinawan Rum. Cor Cor Red and Green first seriously caught my eye at London Rumfest 2017. They were displaying at the Boutique Rumfest on the Friday afternoon. A show which is designed for new rums to display their wares to the “trade”. Its the part of the weekend I personally enjoy the most. The atmosphere is a little more restrained and you get to try a lot of new rums.
