Sampan Rhum Vietnam. I aways like it, when I am reviewing something from a distillery that I haven’t touched upon previously. It makes the “introduction” section so much easier. Today, I am reviewing my first ever r(h)um from Vietnam.
Located right on the seafront, just metres from the beach stands Distillerie d’Indochine. The Owner and Master Distiller Anotine Poircuitte has over 35 years of experience in the field of wine and spirits so the website tells us!.

Rhum Bologne VO Rhum Vieux. When I first bought a couple of bottle of Rhum Bologne (on offer from Amazon), I didn’t think I had reviewed any “Rhum Bologne”.
However, upon doing a bit of research I realised I had of course reviewed their Rhum Bologne Black Cane way back in 2017.
J. Bally 7 Ans D’Age. Or simply in English J. Bally 7 Year Old. The rums in the J. Bally range are named after the founder of the brand Jacques Bally.
In 1917 an engineering graduate by the name of Jacques Bally bought the Lajus Plantation on the island of Martinique. It is reported that he built his initial column still. This was supplemented by equipment he bought from the nearby Dariste Plantation/Distillery, which went bankrupt in 1923.
Rhum Depaz Rhum Vieux Agricole Plantation. Rhum Depaz are a rum brand and distillery from the French speaking island of Martinique. As a result most (but not all) of their rhums follow the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Controlee) Martinique.
The AOC is series of rules and regulations which producers much adhere to in order to produce rhum which is then accredited with an AOC certificate. For further information on the AOC please read here.
The Duchess Martinique 15 Years Old Rum. For 2020,
Independent Bottler The Duchess have begun a line of Hummingbird inspired r(h)ums, with artwork, as always from Dutch artist Hans Dillesse.
There has been a little bit of confusion surrounding this rhum. It has been suggested in some parts of the internet that it is a rhum from boutique producer A1710 based at the Habitation du Simon nearby. This rhum is very definitely from the Rhumerie du Simon.
That Boutique-y Rum Company Issan Rum Thailand. The Issan Distillery is situated in the North of Thailand. They release their own rums under the name of the distillery. I’m pretty sure they don’t have much of a distribution deal in Europe (particularly the UK) because I cannot recall seeing any of their own releases for sale here.
