Vale Verde 12 Anos Rum review by the fat rum pirateVale Verde 12 Anos. This cachaca has a very good reputation and is widely available (there is even a stockist here in the UK). It has won some quite prestigious awards since it’s release back in 2012.

Vale Verde 12 Anos is a 12 year old cachaca, which has been aged in European oak. It hails from Betim, Minas Gerais. A region well known for its excellent cachaca. The distillery is situated in “Vale Verde Alambique e Parque Ecologica” at Rua Ary Barbosa da Silva. This development houses the distillery which produced Vale Verde, a cachaca museum (which has over 2,000 cachacas on display) and a recreational/sight seeing park complete with man made waterfalls and various activities such as archery for visitors to enjoy. Cachaca D’Lourdes Carvalho

Cachaca D'Lourdes Carvalho Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca D’Lourdes Carvalho. This cachaca hails from perhaps the most famous cachaca producing state in Brasil – Minas Gerais. However, this cachaca does not hail from the more common city Salinas but even further inland, in the city of Congonhas do Norte.

Cachaca Caracuipe Prata Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca Caracuipe Prata. Engenho (which can be translated from Portuguese to either mean Mill or Sugar Plantation in this context) Caracuipe has been producing artisanal cachaca since 1933.

Cachaca Santa Terezinha Canela Sassafraz

Cachaca Santa Terezinha Canela Sassafraz Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca Santa Terezinha Canela Sassafraz. Back on the cachaca today with another review from the Santa Terezinha brand. I previously reviewed their Arte release. Santa Terezinha hails from Espirito Santa and have producing cachaca since 1943.

I covered Santa Terezinha’s production methods in my last review. So I won’t repeat myself. I will however cover the make up of this particular cachaca. I have not come across a cachaca which has been aged in Canela Sassafraz before. Being perfectly honest ,I have little idea what this might be other than some kind of native Brasilian wood or woods. I have come across Sassafras Root before (both in the form of being an ingredient in Root Beer and by way of a Green Day song on the album Dookie). At this stage I am unsure if there is any link. Cachaca Tabua Flor de Prata

Cachaca Tabua Flor de Prata rum review by the fat rum pirate Cachaca Tabua Flor de Prata. We are back in Salinas, Minas Gerais for this review of a white cachaca from  Tabua Industria e Comercio de Cachaca Ltda. Luckily they stick to just Tabua for this brand of cachaca.

Cachaca Tabua have two cachaca’s in their portfolio. This Flor de Ouro and a cachaca Flor de Ouro which is aged for 10 years in Balsam casks. Cachaca Tabua Flor de Prata has been bottled at 42% ABV. It is available in a variety of bottles sizes 50ml, 600ml, 670ml and 700ml. The price of the 600ml – 700ml size bottles seems to to vary quite a bit online. It can even be found on Amazon for R$45. The history of the Reserva do Zito begins in 1945, when José Rufino, known as “Zito”, fled the drought of the Piauí backlands and began working at an old sugar cane mill in the city of Passagem Franca, Maranhao.
