Liberte Black Spiced Rum

Liberte Black Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirate Liberte Black Spiced Rum is a new entrant to the ever expanding Spiced Rum market. Liberte Black Spiced Rum is actually a supermarket “own brand”.  This one hails from German discount supermarket Lidl.

It has already received a bit of coverage in the press as perhaps being an alternative to the ever Popular “The Kraken”.  The Kraken pretty much has the “Dark Spiced” market sewn up.  For some reason despite the ongoing popularity of Morgan’s Spiced Gold – the Captain Morgan company have done little to promote or make available their Black Spiced Rum in the UK.  Despite making it pretty much a Kraken knock off in terms of appearance. Neptune Golden Rum Aged 3 Years

Neptune Golden Rum Aged 3 Years Rum Review by the fat rum pirateNeptune is a new rum brand from the UK.  Unsurprisingly whilst the brand is from the UK the actual rum is not.  Neptune Golden Rum is a 3 year old rum from Barbados. The rum is actually from Foursquare distillery.  Effectively what we are getting here is a “gold” version of Doorly’s iconic three year old white rum. Kind of. Worst Ten Rums…….So Far

Worst Rum So Far Article by the fat rum pirateWorst Ten Rums is probably an article a lot of you have been expecting for a while. In fairness it has been in the pipeline a long time.  With around 300 reviews in the bag, I thought it might be useful to look back and see which rums I truly hated.

You see a lot of the rum I have reviewed I have found to be pretty mediocre.  Maybe I could compile a list of the Ten most boring rums as well?  When all is said and done, not that many rums have truly offended me or surprised me.  Often I’ve bought cheaply and pretty much got what I paid for. Velier Caroni No Smoking Aged 16 Years (55% ABV)

Velier Caroni No Smoking 16 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateVelier Caroni No Smoking? After their Demerara rums (RIP) Velier Spa are best known in the rum world for their range of rum from the Caroni Distillery in Trinidad.  The Caroni Distillery closed for the final time circa 2002/3.

As in the whisky world with Port Ellen rums it seems that the pull of a “Lost Distillery” is difficult to resist.  Velier Caroni rum has become some of the most sought after and prized distillate in the Rum World.  Which is strange because if you speak with Richard Seale of Foursquare he will tell you their distinctive flavour is based on “bad distillation”. St Abbs Six Spice Rum

St Abbs Six Spice Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSt Abbs Six Spice Rum is as the title suggests another Spiced rum to be added to the already very crowded segment of the market.  St Abbs currently have three rums in their range.  The trademark Captain’s Table XO, Cask Silver (a white rum) and this their Six Spice Spiced Rum.

St Abbs Six Spices used the Cask Silver as its base rum.  It is then infused with six different spices and a dollop of blackstrap molasses. Giving colour and a bit of depth.  The six spiced used in the blend are Ginger, Vanilla, Clove, Black Pepper, Cinnamon and Star Anise. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
