Geographic Indications (GIs) : The Jamaican Rum GI Explained
A Geographical Indication (GI) is a form of intellectual property linking a product to a specific geographic origin and production method. For Jamaica, a GI was registered for “Jamaican Rum” in 2016 by the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) and is administered by the Spirits Pool Association, which represents rum producers on the island (Jamaica Gleaner).

Best Value Rums on the UK Market – Jamaica. I’ve been considering an article on “Best Value Rums” for some time. Following my Rum of the Year article, I’ve received a lot of requests for a post focusing on cheaper or value for money rums.
I think people are beginning to feel a little priced out of certain types of rum. I’m hoping this will help people seek out some genuinely good rum without breaking the bank. I’m also hoping some of the selections will help people who might feel they are missing out. You don’t need to be paying £100 for a Hampden DOK Single Cask rum to experience Jamaican rum
Rum of the Year 2021 – Winner. I published my shortlist a few days ago. A longer shortlist than usual but bizarrely down to me actually reviewing less rum this year! For an explanation then please read the Shortlist article.
Much like 2020 the year 2021 didn’t go quite as how many had planned. It was certainly much better than 2020 but unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and peoples lives are still be disrupted.
For those of you who perhaps aren’t members of the group, as well as running this website, I am also one of the admins of The UK Rum Club. This is a Facebook group which run along with Steven James of Rum Diaries Blog. This is a group which focuses more on Rum without Additives, than most others around at the moment.

There is no commercial incentive for my award of “Rum of the Year”. No stickers or medals to be awarded. It’s very much the opinion of one amateur Rum Enthusiast. This is merely a bit of fun. I do not think I am the Jim Murray of the Rum World!

Cachaca of the Year 2020. For our first Cachaca of the Year, I willl not name a shortlist, I will just announce which cachaca I enjoyed the most this year. To be honest (and shame on you all) the reviews of cachaca I do, just don’t generate the same kind of interest that my usual rum reviews do.
