House of Rum Trinidad Rum 2012. Today we have a new Independent bottler. Based here in the UK under the spotlight. Step forward House of Rum…….
I had actually come across this brand prior to being aware they were bottling Single Cask offerings. Of which this Trinidad 2012 is one of. I noticed a couple of their blends on Amazon (of all places) – a White Filtered and a more Aged Blend, if memory serves me correctly. They were quite reasonably priced and the packaging was quite distinct.
Bedford Park Caroni 1998. This rum is actually labelled as Bedford Park Single Barrel Trinidad Rum. I usually go with the detail on the bottle label when “naming” my reviews.
However, the company have this listed as Caroni 1998 online and I figure that will likely entice more readers/potential purchasers. So I’ve gone with that.
Distilia Chaconia 24 YO Distilled at Caroni Distillery. This bottling opens Distilia’s “Floral Rum Series”, which helps explain the presentation.
Distilia was set up by Spirits Afficionado’s Jakub Baginiski and Piotr Kossowski, initially they released long aged whisky from Karuizawa, Glenfarcas and Clynelish amongst others.
Jack Tar La Lune Cosmic Series Distilled at Caroni 1997. Alongside the mythical Velier Demerara bottlings and the more recent Foursquare Velier/ECS releases – Caroni has remained high on the agenda of many rum collectors and enthusiasts.
The fact that the distillery has been closed since the turn of the century, really hasn’t seem to have restricted the availability of the rum from Caroni. A lot of this has been bottled by the likes of Velier, Bristol Spirits and Cadenhead’s. Newer bottlers such as The Colours of Rum and Jack Tar are also increasingly getting in on the act.
The Colours of Rum Trinidad 1998. Whilst the Independent Bottler of this rum may be fairly new, stocks of 1998 Caroni Rum have been circulating for a while. It’s probably one of the most released vintages, particularly over the past few years.
You’ll find that most of these Caroni 1998 bottlings will have been at least partially aged here in Europe rather than in Trinidad or the Tropics. Which is partly why such bottlings are able to be aged for so long. There are a number of things to consider when ageing spirits. However, whilst ageing and maturing rum is important, evaporation has to be considered. No point ageing barrels of rum for years and years to come back and find you’ve barely anything left……
Jung and Wulff Luxury Rums No 1 Trinidad. I’ll be honest with you all, I can’t say I had heard of L.E Jung and Frederick Wulff before coming across this range of “Luxury Rums” from Sazerac.
However, they were responsible for importing the finest spirits into New Orleans and are past owners of The Sazerac House and Peychaud’s Bitters. This range of 3 rums have been released as a reminder of their pioneering work.
The Duchess Ten Cane Distillery Trinidad Aged 11 Years. Yet another rum from Dutch Independent Bottler The Duchess this time from a Trinidad distillery that I didn’t even realise existed!
To be fair to me by the time I got into rum in the early part of the 2010’s Ten Cane was fading out. Production of any rum produced under the Ten Cane banner ceased in 2015. It was a short lived thing being introduced in 2005. I actually have some of the original Ten Cane rum to review. So I will save the Ten Cane “story” for that review. I should still have enough to talk about with this release from The Duchess.
