The Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum

The Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum. This one is filed under “should have reviewed a lot earlier”. You’ll struggle to find a bottle of this on the primary market. More likely to find a bottle or two at auction or another part of the secondary market.

Quite why I didn’t review it, I’m not so sure I just never got around to it. Distracted by other offerings. A number of other reviewers did review it though and it caused a bit of a fuss as a lot of people seemed to really like it. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Legendario Ron Dorado

Legendario Ron Dorado Rum Review by the fat rum pirateLegendario Ron Dorado. Perhaps one of the most ironic things about the Legendario brand is that, arguably it’s most famous rum isn’t even a rum. The “seven year old”  Elixir de Cuba is exactly that an Elixir.

Unfortunately not a lot of people know what it is. If you are puzzled by this yourself then please read my review above of the Elixir de Cuba. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

McDowell’s No1 Celebration Deluxe XXX Rum

McDowell's No1 Celebration Deluxe XXX Rum review by the fat rum pirateMcDowell’s No1 Celebration Deluxe XXX rum. A first for this site, in that I am reviewing a rum from a cardboard box…..The ethos of this site has always been that I’ll review pretty much anything that has rum written somewhere on the label.

I know a lot of other review sites swerve from what they perceive as “inferior” spirits. At the end of the day the idea of this site is to try and inform your more average consumer. I like the idea that people can walk into a store and if they see something they are unsure of, they can search for a review online. Hopefully, they will come across a review from this site which will better inform them, whether to purchase or not. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery Nobiliary

Foursquare Rum Distillery rum review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery Nobiliary. As I write and had I not had issues with my (un)trusty old laptop I would have had this review published earlier, this particular bottling is only available in the UK from our good friends over at The Whisky Exchange. Who due to demand are currently in the process of re-listing this whilst ensuring they have sufficient bottles to send to those who purchased last week. I think they have re-listed it now Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Duchess Barbados Distilled at Foursquare Aged 18 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Duchess Barbados Distilled at Foursquare Aged 18 Years. Here we have the second of the two very recently released “Hummingbird” series rums from Dutch Independent bottler The Duchess.

And it is fair to say that this one is bound to pique interest. Not only is it from the currently very “trendy” Foursquare Rum Distillery it also has an age statement which will grab peoples attention. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron Aldea Maestro 2006

Ron Aldea Maestro 2006 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon Aldea Maestro 2006. Ron Aldea are a  rum producer from the Canary Island of La Palma. They have been producing rum since 1936. Originally based on the island of Gran Canaria, the concern moved to nearby La Palma in the 1950’s.

If you have ever travelled to the Canary or even the Balearic islands around Spain you will have come across Ron Aldea in the Duty Free. It is also present in most mainland Spanish Duty Free outlets. Quite often they have tasters available – which to be honest never exactly blew me away but we won’t pre-judge based on that. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
