S.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Antigua 2015 review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Antigua 2015. Continuing the theme of recent reviews of Independent Bottlers (IB’s), today we are reviewing a rum from Danish bottlers/brand owners/distributors 1423.

In the UK we are fortunate to receive a very healthy number of products from 1423, as the chaps over at Skylark Spirits have taken over distribution of their products. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

English Harbour Antigua Rum Port Cask Finish

English Harbour Antigua Rum Port Cask Finish. English Harbour are a rum brand from Antigua, an island in the West Indies. They are pretty much famous for their signature English Harbour 5 Year Old and frankly not a lot else really.

Domestically they produce Cavalier Gold and White rum and Koko Caribe Coconut Rum. Rarely, if ever have I seen these rums for sale outside of Antigua. The rum is produced at Antigua Distillery Limited. Which is the islands only active distillery. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum

The Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Antigua Distillery Heavy Traditional Rum. This one is filed under “should have reviewed a lot earlier”. You’ll struggle to find a bottle of this on the primary market. More likely to find a bottle or two at auction or another part of the secondary market.

English Harbour 1981 25 Year Old

English Harbour 1981 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateEnglish Harbour rums are produced by Antigua Distillers on the Caribbean Island of the same name.  English Harbour is a port on the island.  Its name was given by the Royal British Navy when they set up a naval base there in the 18th century.

Outside of the Caribbean, Antigua Distillers are best recognised for their English Harbour rums.  The 5 year old is regularly held up as being a classic (I didn’t share that view in my review though).  Within the Caribbean they are best known for their Cavalier brand of rums.  Less expensive rums used mostly for mixing.  Much like St Lucia Distillers produce Bounty for their own domestic and more localised market. English Harbour Aged 5 Years Antigua Rum

English Harbour 5 Rumvent Review by the fat rum pirateEnglish Harbour is a rum which I had been looking at for some time.  For whatever reasons I had resisted the temptation to buy a bottle online.  I was presently surprised to find Newcastle (Upon Tyne) department store Fenwick’s had it in stock.  There is something satisfying about actually being able to have the experience of being able to buy a half decent bottle of rum over the counter.  Whilst the rum was slightly more expensive than online (£27.50) this was tempered by the ability to have the rum instantly (even though its taken nearly 3 weeks to try it!) and the fact no P&P charges.
