Ron de El Salvador Cihuatan 12 Solera Reserva Especial. We are delving back into some Latin Style rum. This time with some rum from a country I haven’t covered before El Salvador. The Ron Cihuatan brand have been around in Europe for a few years now. Being honest, these type of rums are not something I actively seek anymore.
Cachaca Japi Classica. This cachaca hails from Itupeva, Sao Paulo. It is produced at the JP Distillery. Cachaca production at JP Distillery began as far back as 1890. However, in 1925 the property on which the distillery was housed was sold to an Italian immigrant Cyrineo Tonol.
Cyrineo decided that he wished to cultivate coffee as it was more lucrative so the distillery was deactived and the cultivation of coffee beans began. Unfortunately partly due to the US Stock Market crash and the resulting “Great Depression” demand and the price of coffee plummeted between 1929 and 1931.
Ron Zacapa Centenario Sistema Solera 23 Etiqueta Negra. This is a rum which you will probably struggle to find in this particular form now. It was a limited edition release primarly for the German and Italian market. It was released to replace the “Black Label” Ron Zacapa 23 and has itself been superseded by Edicion Negra.

Bacardi Facundo Exquisito Rum. This rum is part of Bacardi’s Facundo range. The range is named after the original founder of Bacardi Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. Bacardi Facundo Exquisito Rum is the mid tier of the range.
Bacardu Facundo Exquisito Rum retails at around £100. Which is slightly less expensive than their flagsip Reserva Limitada. Bacardi Facundo Exquisto (meaning to be free) is distilled on multi column stills in Puerto Rico. It is a blend of rums aged between 7 and 23 years old. It has been bottled at a very conservative 40% ABV. The rum is aged in ex-bourbon casks before being blended and aged for a further month in ex-sherry casks.
Black Tot Rum – Finest Caribbean. Ahhh,.Black Tot is back again. Almost 50 years since it was decommissioned, back in July 1970. This is the third “Black Tot Rum” in the series of rums released by Elixir Distillers.
It is also (by far) the cheapest of those rums. The first Black Tot Rum was The Last Consignment which was believed to be produced using stocks of authentic British Royal Navy rum. These stocks had been stored in stone flagons, following the abolition of the tot and kept at various Army and Navy bases around the UK. It originally retailed at around £650 and you would now be looking in excess of £1500 for a bottle on the secondary market.
