Clarkes Court Superior Light White Rum. Clarke’s Court are a rum distiller and producer from the island of Grenada. They are the islands number one producer. Their products do enjoy a bit of exposure beyond the domestic market but you will rarely hear anyone raving about their products beyond Grenada.
An Interview with RumCask. I will keep the introduction for this one fairly brief as the three lads that make up the RumCask team Indy, Jaz and Chet have really put the effort in when it has come to this interview!
I’ve been friendly with the RumCask lads since the Manchester Rum Festival in 2017 where I met Indy. I had briefly met them previously at London Rumfest but discussions had been in larger groups rather than speaking to them on a more personal level.
Pixan Rum de Mexico 8 Anos. Spirit that gives life is the translation from Mayan into English for Pixan (Pea-shan). As the title suggests this is a rum from Mexico.
To be more exact, Monterray in North East Mexico. It hails from the Destileria Espiritus del Norte (Northern Spirit Distillery). The rum is produced using molasses from the city of San Luis Potosi. Which is in central Mexico.
Castelo Branco Aguardente de Cana. Castelo Branco (White Castle) are a cachaca producer from Goias State. The brand is owned by Luiz Mantiega Alvares de Campos Filho.
It was formed in 1946 when Luiz’s grandfather who moved to Goias from Abaete set up a distillery using a 500 litre Alembic Copper Pot Still, from Minas Gerais. As well as being the owner of Castelo Branco Luiz is also the President of the Goiana Association of Cachaça Alembic Producers – AGOPCAL,
English Harbour Antigua Rum Port Cask Finish. English Harbour are a rum brand from Antigua, an island in the West Indies. They are pretty much famous for their signature English Harbour 5 Year Old and frankly not a lot else really.
Domestically they produce Cavalier Gold and White rum and Koko Caribe Coconut Rum. Rarely, if ever have I seen these rums for sale outside of Antigua. The rum is produced at Antigua Distillery Limited. Which is the islands only active distillery.
.An Interview with Dave Marsland – Manchester Rum Festival. Much like Peter Holland I could have put any number of monikers after Dave’s name..
I am producing this interview series to try and keep people who are doing good things in the Rum World, in the public view.
It’s easy for me to remain in the spotlight as I blog regularly. Unfortunately most people actually working in the industry don’t have time to blog. Some aren’t able to work or have had their livelihoods disrupted considerably during these worrying times.
Saint James Royal Ambre 45%. A pleasant surprise when on holiday in Salou, Spain, was stumbling across a litre bottle of this difficult to find 45% ABV Royal Ambre.
Whilst the Saint James brand is omnipresent in France, it is not so popular in Spain. This particular bottling I had not seen available in the UK for quite some time. Only the 40% ABV version.
