Pixan Rum de Mexico 8 Anos. Spirit that gives life is the translation from Mayan into English for Pixan (Pea-shan). As the title suggests this is a rum from Mexico.
To be more exact, Monterray in North East Mexico. It hails from the Destileria Espiritus del Norte (Northern Spirit Distillery). The rum is produced using molasses from the city of San Luis Potosi. Which is in central Mexico.
Uruapan Charanda Blanco Pure Single Agricola. Today I’m continuing my journey into what our Mexican friends call Charanda. For those unaware about Charanda, it is a alcoholic spirit which derives from sugar cane. This particular brand Uruapan, is also one the biggest cities in the state of Michoacan, were Charanda is exclusively produced.
Sol Tarasco Extra Aged Charanda Hongos. We are diversifying once again. This time our journey into other Sugar Cane derived spirits is taking us to Central America. Charanda is to Mexico what Cachaca is to Brasil. Whilst it is essentially “rum” it has it’s own little nuances, defined by the “terroir” of the spirit.
Bacardi Anejo. Aside from the usual Bacardi bottles you find in the Supermarket and Duty Free a trip to the continent (and further a field) can often throw up a few more variations from the Puerto Rican rum powerhouses.
Ron Los Valientes Aged 15 Anos Anejo Especial. This is a rum hailing from Mexico. In Mexico rum is often referred to as Charanda. I’ve previously reviewed Mocambo which also hails from Mexico. I also have a few other samples of Charanda lurking about that I need toLico find time to write about.
El Ron Prohibido or Ron Habanero. I’m really not quite sure quite how to introduce this rum. The front of the bottle is written mostly in Spanish so that doesn’t really help. The back of the bottle gives more clues as its all in English – Ron Prohibido is the registered Trade Mark on the back so I’ll go with that.
Produced in Mexico by Licores Veracruz. The rum is bottled in small quantities and aged in white oak barrels (ex bourbon). There is more information on the bottle. Unfortunately other than the attached label it is all in Spanish!
