An Interview with Karen Hoskin – Montanya Distillers

An Interview with Karen Hoskin - Montanya Distillers by the fat rum pirateAn Interview with Karen Hoskin – Montanya Distilers. The World Wide Web throws up all kinds of opportunities for a blogger. So here I am compiling an interview with none other than Karen Hoskin of Montanya Distillers, Colorado in the US of A.

I have actually met Karen (at last years London Rumfest) and Karen was also present at the first European Online Rum Festival earlier this year. I decided to revive the interviews during lockdown to try and help out less “established” brands and those who are just getting their feet here in the UK. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

An Interview with Matt Perkins – Thameside Rum Company

An Interview with Matt Perkins Thameside Rum Company by the fat rum pirate An Interview with Matt Perkins – Thameside Rum Company. It can be very difficult as a Rum Reviewer to try and keep up with all the new rum releases.

Although, for obvious reasons the UK is not exactly a hotbed of rum production (though in fairness it has increased a fair bit over the past few years) it is a country which has a very long standing relationship with rum. We are currently only too aware of our not so proud history and relationship with our colonies and their inhabitants. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

An Interview with RumCask

An Interview with RumCask Rum Interview by the fat rum pirate ArticleAn Interview with RumCask. I will keep the introduction for this one fairly brief as the three lads that make up the RumCask team Indy, Jaz and Chet have really put the effort in when it has come to this interview!

I’ve been friendly with the RumCask lads since the Manchester Rum Festival in 2017 where I met Indy. I had briefly met them previously at London Rumfest but discussions had been in larger groups rather than speaking to them on a more personal level. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

An Interview with Mark Reynier – Renegade Rum

An Interview with Mark Reynier Renegade Rum by the fat rum pirateBoth the names of Mark Reynier and Renegade Rum may already be familiar to many of you readers. Undoubtedly more famous in the Whisk(e)y world than in the world of Rum Mark Reynier, has built a reputation for being a bit of a maverick.

Best known for his stint as CEO of Bruichladdich. He resurrected the abandoned distillery and soon Bruichladdich was famous for its exotic (at the time) wine cask finished whiskies. Reynier himself was gaining a reputation as an innovator and spoke of “terroir” in whisky way before such things became trendy. He also succeeded in pissing off the Scotch Whisky Association along the way as well. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
