Black Tot 40 Year Old Demerara Rum is the latest release from independent bottlers Elixir Distillers. The rum has been released to pay homage to the British Royal Navy. Unlike the original Black Tot release which was released in 2011 this is not a rum which was available to the Royal British Navy.

Here we have another independent bottling by Kill Devil (Hunter Laing) of Jamaica Rum from the Long Pond Distillery. Over the past year I have become more familiar with rums from the Long Pond distillery.
Rums such as Expressions by Old Man Rum Co. have an element of aged Pot Still rum from the Long Pond distillery and I also purchases a Duncan Taylor bottling from Long Pond shortly before Christmas 2016. Which turned out to be one of the best rums I have ever tasted.
Ron Pampero Anejo Seleccion 1938 can be quite a tricky rum to track down. Diageo the owner of this Venezulan rum brand seem focused upon the entry level Anejo and Blanco. In addition to this the brands Aniversario is fairly easy to pick up. Especially in Spain.
Anejo Seleccion 1938 takes part of its name from the year in which Pampero began producing rum as Industrias Pampero. It is Anejo (aged) rum but no age is attributed on the bottle.
Habitation Velier have bottled a Pure Single Rum from the Hampden Estate in Jamaica. In actual fact they’ve now actually bottled three different expressions from the Hampden Estate. I’m a little behind the times I’m afraid.
Released in 2016 this particular release is now particularly difficult to find. It comes in the increasingly familiar Habitation Velier presentation box. Which shows a drawing of each still the rum was distilled on. It is also chock a block with detailed information on what the rum actually is. No fairy stories here just cold hard facts.
Rum is Fun so the mantra goes. I once asked Dave Broom if rum needed to lose its “fun” tag to improve its image. Dave’s overwhelming response was a very definite no. He has even mentioned me posing the question in his latest rum book The Manual.
Dave believes that rum should keep its “fun” tag as it makes people smile when they think of it. He also felt that when Scotch Whisky forgot about “fun” the industry entered two decades of decline.
Single Cane Estate Rums – Worthy Park is actually a Bacardi International Brand. Acting almost like an independent bottler Bacardi, released a couple of rums (this and a Dominican Republic rum) into the Travel Retail market in 2015.
Worthy Park for those who aren’t familiar is a re-born rum distillery from Jamaica. Forced to close in the nineteen sixties due by the Jamaican government the distillery began operating again in 2005. A number of Worthy Park rums from 2005 and 2006 have been released onto the Independent market over the past couple of years.
