John Frum’s Cargo Cult Spiced Rum

Cargo Cult Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateJohn Frum’s Cargo Cult Spiced Rum. This is a Spiced Rum which has been making a few waves in the UK. This is partly due to it being available in Marks and Spencer. It is also available at the travelling “The Rum Festival” events – where it is proving very popular with consumers. Peaky Blinder Black Spiced Rum

Peaky Blinder Black Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum piratePeaky Blinder Black Spiced Rum. Peaky Blinder’s is a very popular programme in the UK at the moment. It is a Gangster Family Epic set just after the First World War. I’ve never seen it to be honest.

The term Peaky Blinder refers to the gangs Flat Caps which they stitched razor blades into to slash the foreheads of their enemies, causing blood to drip into their eyes rendering them temporarily blind and unable to defend further attacks on their person. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Alnwick Rum Golden Spiced

Alnwick Rum Golden Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateAlnwick Rum Golden Spiced. Alnwick Rum is a bit of an icon up here in the North East.  I reviewed the original Alnwick rum a couple of years back (a re-review if forthcoming as I do feel I got the original review wrong).

This is their Golden Spiced expression which was released in late 2015. Golden Spiced is a blend of the original Alnwick rum with a mixture of spices and flavours such as Black Pepper and Ginger. At the time of release they deliberately stated they were staying away from the vanilla flavour profile preferred by many other producers. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced

Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDon Q Oak Barrel Spiced. Don Q are a rum producer from Puerto Rico. Availability of their rums has increased dramatically over the past couple of years.  Thanks, in no small part to the efforts of Global Rum Ambassador Alexx Mouzouris.  Don Q rum is now widely available in the UK and I would recommend trying their range to anyone interested in trying a light column distilled style of rum without additives.  Which is a bit of a rarity these days. Liberte Black Spiced Rum

Liberte Black Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirate Liberte Black Spiced Rum is a new entrant to the ever expanding Spiced Rum market. Liberte Black Spiced Rum is actually a supermarket “own brand”.  This one hails from German discount supermarket Lidl.

It has already received a bit of coverage in the press as perhaps being an alternative to the ever Popular “The Kraken”.  The Kraken pretty much has the “Dark Spiced” market sewn up.  For some reason despite the ongoing popularity of Morgan’s Spiced Gold – the Captain Morgan company have done little to promote or make available their Black Spiced Rum in the UK.  Despite making it pretty much a Kraken knock off in terms of appearance. St Abbs Six Spice Rum

St Abbs Six Spice Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSt Abbs Six Spice Rum is as the title suggests another Spiced rum to be added to the already very crowded segment of the market.  St Abbs currently have three rums in their range.  The trademark Captain’s Table XO, Cask Silver (a white rum) and this their Six Spice Spiced Rum.

St Abbs Six Spices used the Cask Silver as its base rum.  It is then infused with six different spices and a dollop of blackstrap molasses. Giving colour and a bit of depth.  The six spiced used in the blend are Ginger, Vanilla, Clove, Black Pepper, Cinnamon and Star Anise. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Cloven Hoof Spiced Rum

Cloven Hoof Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCloven Hoof Spiced Rum is made by Guilty Libations, here in the UK in Oxfordshire.  Anyone who has attended the various Rum Festivals that have sprung up all around the UK in the past year may be familiar with the brand.

It is hard to miss.  Big, bold and very brash!  Cloven Hoof Spiced rum is blend of Guyanese and Trini rums. Mixed with (and I quote) “a mysterious concoction of natural spices”.  The presentation is almost Heavy Metal. Their website has several “endorsements” from various bands I have never heard of.  Nor do I like the look of. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
