Plantation Guyana 2005

Plantation 2005 Guyana rum review by the fat rum pirateA 2005 Guyana vintage from Plantation distilled on the iconic Port Mourant pot still.

Plantation rum should be familiar to most readers.  They are not shy when it comes to promoting themselves.  Their Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Infused Rum, has been virtually impossible to ignore over the past couple of years. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kill Devil Jamaica Worthy Park 10 Year Old

KILL DEVIL JAMAICA worthy park 10 year old rum review by the fat rum pirateKill Devil and Worthy Park have already been covered on the website. I was very keen to try out this 10 Year Old Jamaican Rum.

Kill Devil are part of Hunter Laing (an Independent Whisky bottler). This archaic slang term for Rum is used to brand their run of Single Cask rums.

It’s encouraging to see more and more Independent bottlers coming to the fore.  Kill Devil offer very limited “one off” cask bottlings.  These initial releases are not at Cask Strength, so far all releases have been capped at 46% ABV. This may upset some purists.  I understand their next release of rums will be at Cask Strength. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery 2004

Foursquare Rum Distilery 2004 rum review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery should need little or no introduction.  Over the past few years alone, the distillery has released a number of new innovative rums.

These new rums compliment and expand upon the existing classics in the Foursquare repertoire.

Thanks to importer Marussia Beverages, the UK has been treated to a number of new releases in the past couple of months.  Some have been unexpected such as the Doorly’s 8 Year Old (review coming soon).  Others such as this rum, very much anticipated and eagerly received! Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca

Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca rum review by the fat rum pirateSantiago de Cuba is a Cuban rum brand named after the city of Santiago.  A green mountain range named “Sierra Maestra”, the golden sun and the Caribbean Sea characterise the landscape around the city of Santiago.  The landscape can be found in the brands logo.

The Cuban rum distilleries came into existence in the middle of the 19th century. One of the largest distilleries is located in Santiago de Cuba.  The secrets of producing rum are passed on from generation to generation through the “Maestros Roneros”. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Caroni 100% Trinidad Rum Aged 15 Years by Velier

Caroni Aged 15 Years Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCaroni Aged 15 Years is the older brother of the Aged 12 Years I reviewed earlier.  Both bottlings by Velier standards are relatively inexpensive.

Both rums are example of the “heavy” style of Caroni/Trinidad rum.  Angostura do not produce “heavy” style rum under their own banner. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Iceberg Gold Rum

imageIceberg is a rum which hails from Canada.  Well the brand does anyway, unsurprisingly the actual rum in the bottle is not Canadian.

It is in fact a Demerara rum which is blended with “12,000 year old Iceberg water”.  Yeah okay anything you say!  It is bottled by the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Company.  It has made its way into my home here in the UK via Vikingstad in Norway where AST import it from Canada. Flor de Cana 5 Anejo Clasico

Flor de Cana 5 Anejo Clasico Rum review by the fat rum pirateUp for review is another rum from the Flor de Cana range from Nicaragua.  It has taken a while for me to review many of the Flor de Cana rums, as I was disappointed with my experience when I bought the Centenario 12. This is the Flor de Cana 5 – Anejo Clasico.

The increase in decent rum on our supermarket shelves gave me an easy opportunity to pick up this gold rum from their line up. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
