Kill Devil Trinidad Caroni Distillery Aged 20 Years 64.8% ABV The Whisky Barrel ExclusiveKill Devil Trinidad Caroni Distillery Aged 20 Years 64.8% ABV The Whisky Barrel Exclusive. Apologies for the not so snappy title. I always try and provide sufficient information, particularly when dealing with Independent bottlings. This is in the hope a web search will turn up the result you are looking for. I’ve included the ABV in the title because The Whisky Barrel has two Caroni 20 Year Olds from Kill Devil that have just been released. They hail from two different casks but were distilled and bottled at approximately the same time. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000

El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000. The only rums I have seen in my rum “career” that denote Skeldon are the Velier 1973 and 1978 releases. Which are long gone except for those with very deep pockets. As any rum blogger will attest researching Demerara Rums is on the most complicated and time-consuming pursuits. Excellent work by the likes of Marco Freyr of Barrel Aged Mind have helped with this. I will once again recommend reading his huge article on The Demerara Distillieries. Velier Skeldon 1973 Full Proof Old Demerara Rum

Velier Skeldon 1973 Full Proof Old Demerara Rum by the fat rum pirateVelier Skeldon 1973 Full Proof Old Demerara Rum. One of the oldest rums, both in terms of when it was distilled and the length of time it was aged, I have reviewed so far. This is also one of  the rarest. It was one of the earlier Velier bottlings originally released back in 2005. Long before I had become serious about rum. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Berry Bros & Rudd 26 Year Old Uitvlugt Rum Exclusive to the Whisky Barrel

Berry Bros & Rudd 26 Year Old Uitvlugt Rum Exclusive to the Whisky Barrel review by the fat rum pirateBerry Bros & Rudd 26 Year Old Uitvlugt Rum Exclusive to the Whisky Barrel. Another collaboration, between one of London’s finest independent bottlers and one of Scotland’s finest rum and whisky retailers.

This time have a departure from Hampden Estate as we set sail for Guyana. The rum in question is a 26 Year Old rum which was distilled back in 1991 at the old Uitvlugt distillery, on their famous Port Mourant Still. As I understand the distillery closed circa 2000 and the stills were moved to the Diamond Distillery/Demerara Distillers Limited. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Tilambic 151 Overproof Aged Rum

Tilambic 151 Overproof Aged Rum review by the fat rum pirateTilambic 151 Overpoof Aged Rum. The world of Overproof rum is quite an interesting one. Bottlers producing rum, which you are then advised not to take neat, as it may be hazardous to your health.

The most famous examples of Overproof 151 (75.5% ABV) rum are Bacardi 151 and Lemon Hart Demerara. Whilst Bacardi 151 seems to be most common in American frathouses – Lemon Hart has built up quite a following amongst Tiki bartenders who use the rum sparingly, as a float in drinks such as Zombies. Rum 970 Agricola de Madeira Reserva Ans 6 Anos

Rum 970 Agricola de Maderia Reserva Ans 6 Anos Rum review by the fat rum pirateRum 970 Agricola de Maderia Reserva Ans 6 Anos. This Agricole style rum was produced at the Engenhos do Norte (North Milling Company) Distillery, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Which is (unsurprisingly) more famous for being the home of Madeira wine.

Rum 970 Agricola de Madeira Reserva Ans 6 Anos is, as mentioned already, produced in an agricole style from freshly pressed cane juice. The rums at Engenhos do Norte are, from what I gather produced on both Copper Pot and a Barbet Column stills. This rum (if I have translated the rear label correctly) is produced on a Copper Pot “Alembic” Still. The rum has been aged for a minimum of 6 years on Madeira. The ABV is a respectable 40%. This rum is one of Engenhos do Nortes continuous brands. I paid £40 for a 70cl bottle. Other than Oak Casks I am unsure as to what barrels this was aged in – I suspect ex-Madeira but could be completely wrong. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

S.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Denmark 2014

S.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Denmark 2014 rum review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Denmark 2014. As 1423 are based in Denmark it is perhaps unsurprising to see a rum from Denmark being bottled by them.

Whilst Denmark might not be the most obvious place to find rum being distilled, the rum scene in Denmark is booming. Bottlers such as Compagnie des Indes often release rums solely for the Danish market – often at Cask Strength. There are a number of notable rum enthusiasts hailing from Denmark – Ingvar Thomsen, Johnny Drejer and of course Mads Heitmann of Romhatten.com. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
