El Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004

El DEl Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004 rum review by the fat rum pirateorado Rare Collection Albion 2004. Guyanese rum powerhouses Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) caused a bit of a stir in the rum world a few years back when they first released their “Rare Collection” rums.

It is more than a little odd that the actual distillery and producers of Demerara rum, released in the 2000’s and 2010’s are not the ones who take the credit for the best bottlings. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

S.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006

S.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006. I’ve not been seeking out rums from Panama lately. Personally, they aren’t the type of rum that excites me.

On the whole I haven’t really been bothering all that much with “ron” from Spanish-speaking countries. This is partly due to the fact they just don’t interest me but mostly because you never quite know what nonsense they have added to their “ron”. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Diplomatico Planas

Diplomatico Planas Ron Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDiplomatico Planas. This is a white rum from the famous Venezuelan rum brand Diplomatico. Most wll known, without doubt for their Reserva Exclusiva. In a slightly different rum world to the one we know today, seen as one of the world’s best. In some circles, it perhaps still is.

For many rm enthusiasts though the Diplomatico name is synonymous with “added sugar”. The popularity of the Reserva Exclusiva was due too its smooth and sweet profile. Prior to any reliable testing being carried out, this was thought to be down to some exquisite blending techniques, that others simply could not replicate. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Saliboa Cachaca

Saliboa Cachaca Seleta Cachaca Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSaliboa Cachaca is part of the Seleta (Select) family of products. It is one of their more recents products. It is also one of their older cachacas, in terms of ageing.

Hailing from Salinas, MInas Gerais which is often seen as the capital of Cachaca production Seleta is amongst Brasil’s best-selling cachacas. In 2012, Seleta has received the seal of a Geographical Indication (GI) of the INPI. Its location, as well as the climate and soil, promote the development of a great variety of wild yeasts which help with the quality and taste of the cachaça produced by the company. Kill Devil Trinidad Caroni Distillery Aged 20 Years 64.8% ABV The Whisky Barrel ExclusiveKill Devil Trinidad Caroni Distillery Aged 20 Years 64.8% ABV The Whisky Barrel Exclusive. Apologies for the not so snappy title. I always try and provide sufficient information, particularly when dealing with Independent bottlings. This is in the hope a web search will turn up the result you are looking for. I’ve included the ABV in the title because The Whisky Barrel has two Caroni 20 Year Olds from Kill Devil that have just been released. They hail from two different casks but were distilled and bottled at approximately the same time. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000

El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000El Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000. The only rums I have seen in my rum “career” that denote Skeldon are the Velier 1973 and 1978 releases. Which are long gone except for those with very deep pockets. As any rum blogger will attest researching Demerara Rums is on the most complicated and time-consuming pursuits. Excellent work by the likes of Marco Freyr of Barrel Aged Mind have helped with this. I will once again recommend reading his huge article on The Demerara Distillieries. Turmalina da Serra Carvalho

Turmalina da Serra Carvalho Rum Cachaca Review by the fat rum pirateTurmalina da Serra Carvalho is the latest cachaça to be reviewed on the site. Hailing from Areia in Parariba state. Turmalina da Serra is produced at the Cachoeira Sugar Mill. The property spans over 60,000 m2 in the Atlantic Forest.

At one point there were over 120 cachaça producing sugar cane plantations in the town of Areia alone. Today this stands at around 30 – still quite a lot of cachaça to be producing. Especially as this is a swamp area….. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
