Sagatiba Cristalina Cachaca Pura. In all honesty I had quite forgotten this brand of cachaça even existed. Way back in 2009 before I had really started any kind of rum or cachaça journey I enjoyed the occasional bottle of Bacardi. Back then that was “premium” to me and yes we are talking about the Carta Blanca and flavoured variants.

Bristol Classic Rum Reserve Rum of Grenada Distilled in 2003. It has been a long while since I have reviewed any of Bristol Classic Rum’s range. As far as I am aware they haven’t been all that active recently with new releases. This is a rum from the Westerhall Estate.
It has also been quite a while since I reviewed any rum from Grenada. I think the last thing I did on Grenada was an interview with Mark Reynier about the Renegade Rum project.
Ypioca Cinco Chaves. People in the UK may be familiar with the Ypioca brand. In time for the 2014 World Cup in Brasil, Sainsburys one of the countries leading supermarkets decided to stock some Brasillian Cachaca.
Their choice was Ypioca Prata – a white unaged cachaça, which comes in a weave covered bottle (similar to the old Zacapa bottlings) with a funny old man on the front.
Bounty Saint Lucia Rum Premium Dark. Not be confused with the Bounty Rum brand which comes out of Fiji. I reviewed an Overproof from Fiji Rum Company here. I also have previously reviewed the “original” Bounty Gold here.
I’d actually tried for a long time to get a taster of the Bounty Gold. I eventually tracked down a bottle – hence the review last year. No sooner had I got the rum I began hearing that a new range of Bounty rums was coming to the UK.
Magnifica de Faria Tradicional. At last we have a cachaça which is available in the UK (and in parts of Europe). I first came across this brand and cachaça around 7 to 8 years ago in a chain restaurant here in the UK.
Las Iguanas is the name of said restaurant. The restaurant is a Latin American themed restaurant – with some of their dishes being Brasillian in origin (well you know as Brasillian as a Chicken Tikka Masala is Indian) they serve Cachaca. Their own brand nonetheless Magnifica.
Phraya Deep Matured Gold Rum. This is a rum from Thailand. My previous experiences with Thai rum have been largely underwhelming, with the so-so SangSom and the frankly strange concoction that was Mekhong. Technically Mekhong isn’t really a rum – it is often sold as Thai Whisky. Weird stuff nonetheless no matter what you call it.
