Blackadder Raw Cask Barbados Foursquare rum. Blackadder’s Raw Cask rum selection are a number of rums which are “raw” and straight from the cask. No colouring, no additives and no filtration, so they look a little cloudy and raw.
Sourcing Blackadder rum has proved difficult. I ended up getting this bottling from Poland, of all places. This is particularly frustrating as most of Blackadder’s range is aged in the UK.
Elements Eight Fine Aged Platinum rum hails from the island of St Lucia. Elements Eight is the brainchild of Carl Stephenson (whose past employers include Wray and Nephew). Their rums have won numerous awards since they were launched back in 2006.
Platinum is a premium white rum. Unlike many white rums it is actually an aged rum. Aged up to 4 years in ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels. It is then gently filtered to remove any colour. Leaving a very clean, crisp spirit behind. Unlike many rums bottled by UK companies this has been entirely tropically aged.
A while back I reviewed a Royal Navy rum from prior to Black Tot Day. I was able to do this by buying a sample from The Old Spirits Company.
The Old Spirits Company is ran by spirits and cocktail enthusiast Edgar Harden. It offers buyers the chance to buy scarce and hard to find bottlings from years gone by. The Old Spirits Company sells aged spirits as in bottled a long time ago rather than distilled a long time ago. Though in some instances both does apply!
rockact81r Mogwai Rum is without doubt one of the oddest rums I have ever known to be bottled. This rum is not a homage to the pre-horror stage of the furry little animals in the film Gremlins.
Though the band which the rum is named after obviously did take their name from the film. Quite why a Scottish post-rock band called themselves Mogwai is one thing, quite why a Scottish post rock band would want to release a rum? I’m kind of stumped.
Pampero Blanco along with the others rum in the producers range have recently had a makeover. Makeovers in rum seem frequent. Although this blog has only been running since 2014 you will already notice that a number of bottles reviewed have since had their packaging changed.
In this instance the makeover is more of an update really. Giving the rums a more modern feel. For Pampero Blanco the company have opted to move the rum from a tall bar style bottle into a shorter, rounder stubbier bottle.
El Dorado Spiced Rum is a spi
ced rum from the El Dorado brand, funnily enough. You would think that this would be a pretty easy bottling to come across? Surely a global powerhouse such as DDL know the selling power of Spiced Rum?
It would seem they don’t as this is pretty hard to find here in the UK. I don’t even think it is distributed over here. It is more commonly found in mainland Europe but even still it is a rum many people are unaware of.
This is a Jamaican Rum from Worthy Park – hence the JMWP (JaMaica Worthy Park). Worthy Park only re-opened and began distilling rum again in 2005 so this is a bottling which comes from their first year of production.
Cadenhead’s have been bottling rum for quite some time now. They release a number of rums at 46% ABV as part of their Green Label series. For the more serious rum drinker they also have their Cask Strength Dated Distillation series. Which this bottlings is a part of.
