Cadenhead’s BMC Epris Distillery is another offering from the Scottish Independent bottler. More famous for their numerous whisky bottlings Cadenhead’s regularly release rums. Many are your usual Demerara and Bajan offerings but they also bottle rum from more exotic locations such as Belize, Nicaragua and with this offering Brasil.
Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo is rumoured to have been Fidel Castro’s favourite rum. Which is interesting. A lot of the reasons why researching Cuban rum can be so complex is down to him and his revolution!
Which is about as political as I am ever likely to get on this blog. Whether this was Castro’s favourite rum is an interesting aside but nothing more. I dare say if I was the President I would have wanted something more luxurious. Maybe he just liked this one the best.
Rhum J.M are an Agricole Rhum producer from Macouba on the French speaking Caribbean island of Martinique.
Located in northern Martinique at the foot of Mount Pelée.Habitation Bellevue produces sugarcane which is grown up the face of a volcano.
The Housing Bellevue, located on the flanks of Mount Pelee, with rich volcanic soil, allows the sugar cane used exclusively by Rhum J.M. to have unique flavour. Agricole Rhum producers are very keen on using marketing terms such as “terroir” when describing their rums. This is because Agricole in the main, is produced on only a few small islands so it doesn’t have quite as much obvious or immediate diversity as the molasses rum world.
Velier Caroni No Smoking? After their Demerara rums (RIP) Velier Spa are best known in the rum world for their range of rum from the Caroni Distillery in Trinidad. The Caroni Distillery closed for the final time circa 2002/3.
As in the whisky world with Port Ellen rums it seems that the pull of a “Lost Distillery” is difficult to resist. Velier Caroni rum has become some of the most sought after and prized distillate in the Rum World. Which is strange because if you speak with Richard Seale of Foursquare he will tell you their distinctive flavour is based on “bad distillation”.
