Velier National Rums of Jamaica Ltd Long Pond TECC 2007

Velier National Rums of Jamaica 2007 TECC rum review by the fat rum pirateVelier National Rums of Jamaica Ltd Long Pond TECC 2007. I’ve got all four of these Jamaican Rums to review, from the series issued last year by Velier. I am starting with this bottling because it is the youngest. So we’ll do them in “age order” and see how we get on.

These rums were undoubtedly another highlight of 2018, along with the official Hampden releases and yet more excellent Jamaican rum from the likes of Worthy Park and Appleton Estate. 2018 was a very good year for Jamaican rum. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

That Boutique-y Rum Company Labourdonnais Distillery Mauritius rum review by the fat rum pirateThat Boutique-y Rum Company Labourdonnais Distiilery Mauritius. Here we have a 5 year old from the wonderfully named Labourdonnais Distillery on the island of Mauritius. Pronounced Labour-don-nais, so I am told. I can’t actually find a translation  for what it might mean, so we’ll move on from this lesson in French and talk rum again. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

BemBom do Brasil Cachaca

BemBom do Brasil Cachaca rum review by the fat rum pirateBemBom do Brasil is a cachaça aimed at the European market. I first came across it at a Rum Festival in Bristol, not Brasil back towards the end of 2017. I have since seen it at other rum festivals around the UK.

It is marketed as “Brazilian Rum” and cachaça at the same time by the company that market it. It has its own website. BemBom is distributed in the UK by Indie Brands, who have a very eclectic range of spirits and drinks, from all around the world. I would imagine traditionalists will not be keen on BemBom, being marketed as “Brazilian Rum”. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

El Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004

El DEl Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004 rum review by the fat rum pirateorado Rare Collection Albion 2004. Guyanese rum powerhouses Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) caused a bit of a stir in the rum world a few years back when they first released their “Rare Collection” rums.

It is more than a little odd that the actual distillery and producers of Demerara rum, released in the 2000’s and 2010’s are not the ones who take the credit for the best bottlings. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Cachaca de Alambique Sucuri 2 Anos

Cachaca de Alambique Sucuri 2 Anos Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca de Alambique Sucuri 2 Anos. Sucuri is the common name used in Brasil for an Anaconda. As a result, Cachaca Sucuri is produced at the intriguingly named, Anaconda Ranch in Vilhena, Rondonia.

The beginnings of cachaca production started at the ranch in 1999. when Joao Zanin moved his family there. Inspired by his father, who had also produced cachaça, as part of a self sustainability lifestyle. In 2000 Cachaca de Alambique Sucuri was born and began to be sold and marketed in the surrounding state. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

S.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006

S.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Panama 2006. I’ve not been seeking out rums from Panama lately. Personally, they aren’t the type of rum that excites me.

On the whole I haven’t really been bothering all that much with “ron” from Spanish-speaking countries. This is partly due to the fact they just don’t interest me but mostly because you never quite know what nonsense they have added to their “ron”. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Diplomatico Planas

Diplomatico Planas Ron Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDiplomatico Planas. This is a white rum from the famous Venezuelan rum brand Diplomatico. Most wll known, without doubt for their Reserva Exclusiva. In a slightly different rum world to the one we know today, seen as one of the world’s best. In some circles, it perhaps still is.

For many rm enthusiasts though the Diplomatico name is synonymous with “added sugar”. The popularity of the Reserva Exclusiva was due too its smooth and sweet profile. Prior to any reliable testing being carried out, this was thought to be down to some exquisite blending techniques, that others simply could not replicate. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
