Foursquare Rum Distillery Hereditas TWE Exclusive

Hereditas Foursquare Rum Distillery rum review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery Hereditas TWE Exclusive. This rum is exclusive to The Whisky Exchange, London. Rum is increasingly being taken more and more seriously by whisky enthusiasts. At the forefront of this is Sukhinder Singh owner of The Whisky Exchange.

As well as having a much envied collection of rare and collectible whisky, Sukhinder also has a similarly impressive array of rum, at the Whisky Exchange offices. I was one of the lucky rum enthusiasts who were invited to attend a “bring a bottle” event and dinner at the Whisky Exchange’s tasting room, back in October last year. The event was part of London Rumfest. It was a great event and I was humbled to be invited along. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Velho Alambique Ouro

Velho Alambique Ouro Rum Cachaca review by the fat rum pirateVelho Alambique Ouro is a cachaça from the town of Santa Tereza, Serra Gaucha in Rio Grande do Sul state, in Southern Brasil. Velho Alambique refers to “Old Alembic” or “Old Distillery” in English.

Finding information particularly background on this brand has proven a little tricky. They do have a website. Unfortunately, a lot of the information isn’t translating too well using simple translation tools available to me. Regrettably my Portuguese is non existent. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Duchess Trinidad Rum Aged 21 Years Caroni Distillery

The Duchess Trinidad Rum Aged 21 Years Caroni Distillery rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Duchess Trinidad Rum Aged 21 Years hails from the iconic and now defunct Caroni Distillery. Despite the length of time since the distillery closed – way back in 2002, we are still seeing casks of rum being released by Independent bottlers from the late 1990’s.

There have been a good number of 1997, 1998 and 1999 releases over the past few years. Fears that the Caroni stock will quickly “evaporate” seem a little wide of the mark. I think most rum lovers will be able to enjoy a glass or three of Caroni for some time yet. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron del Barrilito 3 Star

Ron del Barrilito 3 Star Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon del Barrilito 3 star. This is perhaps one of the most misunderstood and controversial “rums” in the rum world. On researching this rum, it seems history has been re-written time and time again with regards as to what exactly this rum really is.

A lot of the confusion is caused by “word of mouth” and people passing on information from brand ambassadors, fellow enthusiasts and on occasion the actual producers of Ron del Barrilito. If you try and research this rum you are left with the impression, this could be anything from the greatest rum ever, to a very average “spiced” rum. As with most things, the truth when such polar opposites exist is perhaps more somewhere around the centre of the argument! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Reserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American Oak

Reserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American OakReserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American Oak. Cachaca 51 are the market leaders of cachaça in Brasil (so you might as well say the world). Their standard Prata and Ouro cachaca’s are readily available, in Europe and the UK. I think they also may export to the US.

The Reserva 51 range is the companies more premium offerings. They have 3 cachacas in this series. They have this Reserva 51 Unica (aged in ex-bourbon casks), Reserva 51 Singular (ex-bourbon and Amburana wood) and a Reserva 51 Rara (ex-bourbon and ex-South American Wine Barrels). At the very top of the range they have a Reserva 51 Carvalho Americano (ex-bourbon) Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Bristol Classic Rum Reserve Rum of Grenada Distilled in 2003

Bristol Classic Rum Reserve Rum of Grenada Distilled in 2003 Rum review by the fat rum pirateBristol Classic Rum Reserve Rum of Grenada Distilled in 2003. It has been a long while since I have reviewed any of Bristol Classic Rum’s range. As far as I am aware they haven’t been all that active recently with new releases. This is a rum from the Westerhall Estate.

It has also been quite a while since I reviewed any rum from Grenada. I think the last thing I did on Grenada was an interview with Mark Reynier about the Renegade Rum project. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
