Novo Fogo Silver Cachaca rum review by the fat rum pirateNovo Fogo Silver Cachaca. As I continue my journey into the world of cachaca I am encountering a few cachaca brands which are more geared for the export market, rather than the huge domestic market in Brasil.

One such brand is Novo Fogo. I have previously reviewed a couple of their expressions a Barrel Aged cachaca and  their Tanager blend. Both were pretty good. So having taken some time out to sort out my samples boxes into some kind of order I dug into my cachaca box and came out with Novo Fogo Silver. So we’ll give it a spin today. Wester Spirit Co. have released their first white rum as a limited edition bottle to help support production of hand sanitiser for front line key workers. 3 weeks ago the distillery switched production from rum to hand sanitiser. Hoxton Banana Rum

Hoxton Banana Rum Review by the fat rum pirateHoxton Banana Rum. As well as being a part of East London, Hoxton is also the name taken by Gerry Calabrese, who is the founder of Hoxton Spirits London. He is, as his website declares a “Drinks Maverick”.

Cutting his teeth with Gin, Gerry initially introduced Hoxton Gin and Hoxton Pink Gin. Last year he released Hoxton Banana Rum. Ron Aldea Maestro 2006 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon Aldea Maestro 2006. Ron Aldea are a  rum producer from the Canary Island of La Palma. They have been producing rum since 1936. Originally based on the island of Gran Canaria, the concern moved to nearby La Palma in the 1950’s.

If you have ever travelled to the Canary or even the Balearic islands around Spain you will have come across Ron Aldea in the Duty Free. It is also present in most mainland Spanish Duty Free outlets. Vale Verde 12 Anos

Vale Verde 12 Anos Rum review by the fat rum pirateVale Verde 12 Anos. This cachaca has a very good reputation and is widely available (there is even a stockist here in the UK). It has won some quite prestigious awards since it’s release back in 2012.

Vale Verde 12 Anos is a 12 year old cachaca, which has been aged in European oak. It hails from Betim, Minas Gerais. A region well known for its excellent cachaca. The distillery is situated in “Vale Verde Alambique e Parque Ecologica” at Rua Ary Barbosa da Silva. This development houses the distillery which produced Vale Verde, a cachaca museum (which has over 2,000 cachacas on display) and a recreational/sight seeing park complete with man made waterfalls and various activities such as archery for visitors to enjoy.
