The Duchess Ten Cane Distillery Trinidad Aged 11 Years

The Duchess Ten Cane Distillery Trinidad Aged 11 Years Rum Review by the fat rum pirateThe Duchess Ten Cane Distillery Trinidad Aged 11 Years. Yet another rum from Dutch Independent Bottler The Duchess this time from a Trinidad distillery that I didn’t even realise existed!

To be fair to me by the time I got into rum in the early part of the 2010’s Ten Cane was fading out. Production of any rum produced under the Ten Cane banner ceased in 2015. It was a short lived thing being introduced in 2005. I actually have some of the original Ten Cane rum to review. So I will save the Ten Cane “story” for that review. I should still have enough to talk about with this release from The Duchess. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Mainbrace Premium Spliced Rum

Mainbrace Premium Spliced Rum review by the fat rum pirateMainbrace Premium Spliced Rum. Look again – read the title again. Don’t make my mistake. All is not as is first seems. Especially when you started drinking at 7am……

I was first introduced to Mainbrace at the Boutique Rum Fest, London in October last year. I say introduced what I mean is that I first completely ignored Mainbrace Rum at Boutique Rum Fest. Why? It’s Spiced Rum innit? Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Chairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive

Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive Rum Review by the fat rum pirateChairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive. I first noticed one of these Master’s Selection Chairman’s Reserve rums before Christmas 2019. I think it was exclusive bottling for a Belgian retailer, who’s name now escapes me.

Royal Mile Whiskies had one in stock and then I learnt that The Whisky Exchange were getting their own release, as well. Being a big fan of Chairman’s Reserve and St Lucia Distillers I have been looking forward to trying one of these rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

S.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Denmark 2014 rum review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Denmark 2014. As 1423 are based in Denmark it is perhaps unsurprising to see a rum from Denmark being bottled by them.

Whilst Denmark might not be the most obvious place to find rum being distilled, the rum scene in Denmark is booming. Bottlers such as Compagnie des Indes often release rums solely for the Danish market – often at Cask Strength. There are a number of notable rum enthusiasts hailing from Denmark – Ingvar Thomsen, Johnny Drejer and of course Mads Heitmann of Romhatten.com. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum of the Year 2018 – Winner

Rum of the Year Review by the fat rum pirateRum of the Year 2018 – Winner

It was quite a surprise when compiling the contenders for Rum of the Year, to see which rums didn’t make the grade.

As I only pick one rum from the 100 or so I review in a year, it comes down to the very best of the best. So a lot of excellent (and highly recommended) rums fall by the wayside. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum of the Year 2018 – Shortlist

Rum of the Year Review by the fat rum piratethefatrumpirate.com Rum of the Year 2018.

Obviously, this is the one award that every self respecting rum producer wants to win. In a world where many Rum Awards are determined by paid entries and golden handshakes this is one award no producer can influence. And no amount of nasty emails or invites to distilleries will spoil that…….. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
