Kopparberg Cherry Flavoured Spiced Rum

Kopparberg Cherry Flavoured Spiced Rum review by the fat rum pirateKopparberg Cherry Flavoured Spiced Rum. Fair play to Kopparberg by labelling this rum as both Spiced and Flavoured along with hitting the minimal 37.5% ABV they are producing a Spiced/Flavoured rum in line with EU regulations. Rather than the numerous Rum based Spirit Drinks that have appeared on our shelves (alongside rum) in recent years. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Hoxton Banana Rum

Hoxton Banana Rum Review by the fat rum pirateHoxton Banana Rum. As well as being a part of East London, Hoxton is also the name taken by Gerry Calabrese, who is the founder of Hoxton Spirits London. He is, as his website declares a “Drinks Maverick”.

Cutting his teeth with Gin, Gerry initially introduced Hoxton Gin and Hoxton Pink Gin. Last year he released Hoxton Banana Rum. Which according to the Hoxton website consists of “Fresh Banana macerated for five weeks with the finest hand selected Caribbean rums”. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum

Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum review by the fat rum pirateDiablesse Clementine Spiced Rum. La Diablesse is a character in Caribbean fokelore. More specifically the island of Grenada.

She is depicted as a demon with a cows hoof at the end of one leg. It is said that she hides her “evil” face with a huge fan and leads unsuspecting men into dark forests, where she sacrifices them to the devil. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy 1824 Recipe

Stiggins Fancy Plantation rum review by the fat rum pirateStiggins’ Fancy 1824 Recipe Pineapple Rum has finally hit UK shores.  Plantation the makers of this rum have certainly created a real buzz around this and the sole current stockist of this rum have been overwhelmed with demand for this product.

Rum brand Plantation is owned by Maison/Cognac Ferrand and whilst they may not be quite in the same league as industry giants Bacardi International and Diageo they certainly know how to market their Plantation line of rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Koko Kanu

Koko Kanu rum review by the fat rum pirateHailing from Jamaica comes Koko Kanu.  Which is a first on this site as its a flavoured, rather than a “Spiced” rum.  Distilled by J Wray and Nephew it certainly should have a solid rum at the heart of it.

In the UK Malibu is without doubt the most popular Coconut “rum” but at only 21% it falls massively short of what can be labelled a rum.  In reality it is little more than a Coconut and rum liqueur.  Like Koko Kanu it also has a decent base rum as it is produced at West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) home of Cockspur Rum.  The Malibu brand (12 flavours now available worldwide) is owned by Pernod Ricard. M&S Gingerbread Rum

M&S Gingerbread Rum review by the fat rum pirateMost supermarkets in the UK have their own brand spirits.  Marks and Spencer (or M&S for short), however do not do anything by halves.

So rather than trot out just a standard white and dark Caribbean rum, they have actually got some pretty interesting rums on their shelves.

The M&S Bajan Estate XO and Guatemalan Plantation rums have both been uncovered as being supplied by Cognac Ferrand’s rum blending wing Plantation Rum.  The information on this bottle which states the rum is produced and bottled in France leads me to believe that this Gingerbread flavoured offering is also from Plantation Rum.  NB – Since writing this review I have been informed by Nick Rodgers who works alongside Cognac Ferrand and Plantation Rum that is not a product produced by Plantation.
