Marks & Spencer Guyanese Rum Single Estate XO. As those who know me personally and perhaps as regular readers will agree I am proper posh. As a result I have reviewed rums from “supermarket” Marks & Spencer before. It is of course worth remembering that M&S is not just any supermarket….
Bayou Select Rum. Bayou are a rum brand that hail from Louisiana in the US of A. I have been aware of the brand for a number of years now. They have displayed their Select and Spiced Rum at the London Rumfest the past couple of years. The stand is always pretty busy and one year I struggled to get a taste of their rums as I couldn’t get near the stand.
Botran Ron Anejo Solera 1893 Sistema Solera 18. I’ve lost count the amount of times Botran have changed the presentation of their rums over the past few years. With the various different Solera ages and the re-naming of the various rums as well, I’m not totally sure where this one stacks up in the pecking order.
Tellura Prata. Tellura is a recent addition to the Cachaca producing family in Brasil. Formed in 2015 Tellura with the aim to produce quality, handmade and sustainable Cachaca.
Cachaca has been produced at Abadia Farm, Campos dos Gotacazes in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro for over 100 years. Tellingly Tellura is located strategically just 48km to Port do Acu so it is already, geared to export outside of Brasil.
Worthy Park Special Cask Release Marsala. Worthy Park finally got around to releasing some of their more aged stock in the shape of the Single Estate Reserve in late 2017. That rum was book-ended by two Special Cask Releases.
The Worthy Park Special Cask Release Marsala is partnered by a Oloroso finished rum. Both releases were extremely limited – you may still find the odd bottling online if you are lucky.
The Rum Festival are actually a number of Rum Festivals that tour around the country. This is their second year and they have expanded to cover even more towns and cities all around the UK.
Which is one of the things I really like about The Rum Festival events – they are pretty much on your doorstep. This particular event was even more convenient (for me) as there was a Daytime and Night-time session. So I opted for the daytime event which kicked off at 12 and finished at 5pm.
Peaky Blinder Black Spiced Rum. Peaky Blinder’s is a very popular programme in the UK at the moment. It is a Gangster Family Epic set just after the First World War. I’ve never seen it to be honest.
The term Peaky Blinder refers to the gangs Flat Caps which they stitched razor blades into to slash the foreheads of their enemies, causing blood to drip into their eyes rendering them temporarily blind and unable to defend further attacks on their person.
