Caroni 100% Trinidad Rum Aged 15 Years by Velier

Caroni Aged 15 Years Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCaroni Aged 15 Years is the older brother of the Aged 12 Years I reviewed earlier.  Both bottlings by Velier standards are relatively inexpensive.

Both rums are example of the “heavy” style of Caroni/Trinidad rum.  Angostura do not produce “heavy” style rum under their own banner. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Bristol Classic Rum Providence Estate 1990-2012

imageIn late 2015 a curious bottling of Trinidad rum – Providence Estate arrived on the scene from Bristol Classic Rum.  It certainly caught my attention somewhat more than perhaps yet another Caroni offering.

Which turned out to be a bit of shame for me as this is in fact another Caroni Offering (we think)! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Blended Golden Rum Aged 8 Years

Sainsbury's Trinidad Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSainsbury’s Golden Rum is a product of Trinidad and more specifically Angostura.  Sainsbury’s have long been stockists of Angostura’s 1919 rum.

This rum is aged for 8 years and is the oldest rum Sainsbury’s currently stocks, excluding the 1919.  It’s almost as if Angostura have introduced a direct competitor to the store.  Which does seem a bit strange. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Angostura 5 Year Old Rum

imageDespite the presence of Angostura in the rum and bitters market, it doesn’t seem that their younger rums have caught the imagination.

At least amongst the Rum Reviewing community as I have been unable to find any reviews of this 5 year old rum and only a couple for its older brother the 7 year old.  When it comes to Angostura it seems that life for many begins at 1919 and 1824. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Westerhall Estate White Jack

White Jack Westerhall rum review by the fat rum pirateWhite Jack is a rum produced by Westerhall Estate.  It is named White Jack as it is actually another celebrity tie in.  None other than Jack White of The White Stripes commissioned this White Overproof rum.

Okay that’s a lie but it’s safe to say that when I tried to “Google” some information on White Jack, I got far more results about the Top Hat and Trilby wearing front man of the American Lo-Fi Garage Rock duo than I did about White Jack! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Westerhall Estate Jack Iron

Jack Iron Rum Review by the fat rum pirateWesterhall Estate Jack Iron Rum is a lightly coloured overproof rum from Grenada.

Distillation of rum at Westerhall Estate no longer takes place.  Instead rum is imported from the Angostura Distillery in Trinidad.  It is then blended and bottled at what remains of the Westerhall Estate.

The Estate acts more as a bottling plant and visitor centre now.  It is sad that so many distilleries no longer produce their own rums but unfortunately like so many smaller distillers – competing with the big hitters is proving increasingly difficult. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Plantation Original Dark Rum

Plantation Dark rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation have become multi award winners in recent times and this entry level rum has been one of the companies success stories.  The Original Dark is a blend of rums from Trinidad given the unmistakable Plantation treatment.  Double ageing and “dosage”.

This rum has recently been re-formulated and re-packaged.  It also forms the basis of their much hyped Stiggin’s Fancy which is a Pineapple infused rum which is due for release sometime soon……I haven’t seen anything definite as yet. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
