Appleton Estate 1999 Hearts Collection

Appleton Estate 1999 Hearts Collection rum review by the fat rum pirateAppleton Estate 1999 Hearts Collection. Earlier this month I was extremely fortunate (and humbled) to be one of 300 people, worldwide to be invited to a tasting of the Appleton Estate Hearts Collection.

The Hearts Collection is  co-bottling between Luca Gargano of Velier and Joy Spence of Appleton Estate. They consist of three vintage rums from 1999, 1995 and 1994. These rums were hand picked and selected by Joy and Luca. Despite having a variety of vintages and barrels to choose from, they did both pick the same barrels as their favourites. Admiral Rodney Officer’s Releases No.1 – Port Cask Finish

Admiral Rodney Officer's Releases No.1 - Port Cask Finish rum review by the fat rum pirateAdmiral Rodney Officer’s Releases No.1 – Port Cask Finish. Admiral Rodney is a rum brand, which is produced by Saint Lucia Distillers. It started off as a single name for one of their rums. Since then the rum has expanded into a range of 3 core rums, and a (dosed) Denmark only release. Now they are beginning a series entitled the Officer’s Releases. A1710 La Perle Rare 2017 Canne Rouge R579

A1710 La Perle Rare 2017 Canne Rouge R579 rum review by the fat rum pirateA1710 La Perle Rare 2017 Canne Rouge R579. Or if you would prefer in English The Rare Pearl Red Cane. The R579 refers to the variety (is that the correct term?) of sugar cane used.

Set up in 2016 by Yves-Assier de Pompignan A1710 is a micro distillery situated at the Habitation du Simon, Martinique. It should not be confused with the nearby Distillerie du Simon, which is a much bigger, more established operation of course. That distillery produces rum for the Rhum Clement and Rhum J.M. brands, amongst others. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

S.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Brazil 2013/2017

S.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Brazil 2013/2017 rum cachaca review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S – The 1423 Single Barrel Selection Brazil 2013/2017. 1423 have released a few “Brazilian Rums” over the past few years – they even blended one with a Barbados rum.

Now technically the juice in this bottle is Cachaca. However due to a lack of understanding regarding Cachaca’s independent bottlers and even brands such as Ben Bom label their products “Brazilian Rum”. I guess this helps appeal and not alienate certain consumers who do not understand the spirit. Fair enough I say. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Levy Lane Rum Co. Tamosi

Levy Lane Rum Co. Tamosi rum review by the fat rum pirateLevy Lane Rum Co.Tamosi. Tamosi “The Ancient One, the creater of all, brought into being such a great tree that none like it has ever been seen since” I’m a bit lost to be honest………

Tamosi is named for the Carib creator Tamosi Kabotano. Which translates as “Ancient one of the skyland”. It is said he created the earth and everything upon it. The Carib people, who believed themselves also to have come from the skyland, found Tamosi (Tah-moh-see) to be an absent creator, often leaving their pleas for help unanswered. Tamosi has never been seen so is not depicted as a person. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

J. Bally 7 Ans D’Age

J. Bally 7 Ans D'Age Rhum Rum Review by the fat rum pirateJ. Bally 7 Ans D’Age. Or simply in English J. Bally 7 Year Old. The rums in the J. Bally range are named after the founder of the brand Jacques Bally.

In 1917 an engineering graduate by the name of Jacques Bally bought the Lajus Plantation on the island of Martinique. It is reported that he built his initial column still. This was supplemented by equipment he bought from the nearby Dariste Plantation/Distillery, which went bankrupt in 1923. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
