Ron de Jeremy Reserva

Ron de Jeremy Reserva Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon de Jeremy Reserva is the flagship rum of One Eyed Spirit’s Ron de Jeremy portfolio.  It has been widely available for a number of years. It’s success is down to a mixture of clever (if slightly smutty) marketing and a respectable product.

For those who don’t know, Ron Jeremy is an adult film star – the hardest working man on the planet. As a result the marketing of this rum is full of puns and double entendres.  The name of the rum is a play on the Spanish word for rum – “ron”. Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca

Santiago de Cuba Carta Blanca rum review by the fat rum pirateSantiago de Cuba is a Cuban rum brand named after the city of Santiago.  A green mountain range named “Sierra Maestra”, the golden sun and the Caribbean Sea characterise the landscape around the city of Santiago.  The landscape can be found in the brands logo.

This is the Flor de Cana 5 – Anejo Clasico.

The increase in decent rum on our supermarket shelves gave me an easy opportunity to pick up this gold rum from their line up. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron Barceló Anejo

Ron Barcelo Anejo rum review by the fat rum pirateBarceló are one of the “big three” Dominican rum producers along with Bermudez and Brugal.

While Brugal have made some impact in the UK – their Anejo is available in a couple of supermarkets now.  Bermudez and Barceló continue to be very popular in Spain but have made little inroad into the UK market. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Clairin Casimir

Clairin Casimir 2 rum review by the fat rum pirateClairin Casimir (batch 2) hails from the Douglas Casimir Distillery in Baraderes, Haiti.  The Clairins (Vaval and Sajous) are series of three different Clairins from three different distilleries all on Haiti.  Exported from Haiti by Velier for the European market.

Clairin is a spirit distilled from sugar cane juice rather than molasses.  It is technically very similar to rhum agricole.  Due to the relatively lo-fi nature of the distilleries and their traditional methods clairin is much less refined and more “raw” than most rhum agricole.
