Old Monk Supreme XXX Rum Very Old Vatted

Old Monk Supreme XXX Rum review by the fat rum pirateThere were a couple of rumours going round the internet last year that Old Monk Rum was going out of production,  It appears those rumours were false. Still I felt it was about time that I published my review of Old Monk Supreme.

Bought as an impulse purchase online – it had previously been available very briefily and then disappeared again.  I wasn’t going to miss out on this unique Monk shaped bottle again. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

FAIR 10 Year Old Rum

FAIR 10 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateFAIR Spirits are the first line of socially responsible spirits, so the tagline on their website goes.

This 10 year old rum hails from Belize a Central American country which shares it eastern shoreline with the Caribbean sea.  I have reviewed a couple of rums previously from Belize.  One bottled directly by their largest rum operation Travellers and one which was produced for a third party – much like this FAIR rum. Westerhall Plantation Rum

Westerhall Plantation Rum Review by the fat rum pirateWesterhall Estate was once a bustling hive of sugar and rum production on the island of Grenada.  Nowadays the Estate offers a visitors centre to remind visitors of the rum and sugar production of the past.

Rum is still produced under the Westerhall Estate brand.  However, it is no longer rum made from native sugar cane, not is it made from rum distilled on the island.  Westerhall’s rums are made from rum imported from Trinidad, bottled and blended on the island. Lord Nelson’s Spiced Rum Liqueur

Lord Nelson's Spiced Rum Liqueur review by the fat rum pirateLord Nelson’s Spiced Rum Liqueur represents the first liqueur which I have reviewed on the site.  Well the first drink which is actually labelled as a liqueur anyway…….

Produced as a Naval Tribute to Lord Nelson (myth states that his body was preserved in rum for his final journey home) this is another product from the Hebridean Liqueur Company for me to review. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Pyrat Pistol

Pyrat Pistol Rum Review by the fat rum piratePatron’s Pyrat XO Reserve is perhaps one of the most controversial rums on the planet.  Derided by many as little more than an orange flavour liqueur it still sells by the bucketload all around the world.

Pyrat XO Reserve offends people on many different levels.  Not only does the orange flavour gain criticism from those in hope of a more authentic rum its over the top packaging and garish orange box serves only to fuel people’s ire towards this rum.  Then of course is the little matter of the added sugar and the desecrating of what was at one point a very decent rum (when it was called Planter’s Punch and not owned by Patron – this is not my words just want I have noted online so don’t quote me!), which all adds upto it being the Marmite of rum. Cacique Ron Anejo Superior

Cacique Anejo Rum Review by the fat rum pirate Cacique (which means leader of the tribe in Spanish) is the top selling rum brand in its homeland Venezuela.  This news may come as a surprise to those more familiar with Venezuelan rums such as Pampero and Diplomatico.  What shouldn’t come as any surprise is that Cacique has the marketing power of Diageo behind it. Ron Yacare Anejo

Ron Yacare Review by the fat rum pirateRon Yacare is an Anejo (aged) rum from the Dominican Republic.  It has been difficult to find any information regarding this rum, mainly due to this being predominantly for the Spanish speaking market.

Ron Yacare from the information on the bottle is distributed by Carrefour Supermarket group.  I assume it is available in their stores, which are found mostly in France and Spain.  From web searches they also produce a Honey based Ron Miel and they have a Viejo and Reserva Exclusiva expression as well.  I think that Yacare is more of a brand name and I do not think all of the rums in their range come from the Dominican Republic.
