Raising Glasses Jablesse Trinidad 21 Year Old. I’m reviewing another bottling from US Independent bottler Raising Glasses today. This was originally released in 2024 and is now sold out.
I’m reviewing it as I haven’t reviewed a rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited as old as this before. So I am unfamiliar with such rums. I’ve also noted it has been given some good reviews. Even getting a 96/100 from Malt Runners. So I am curious to see just how good this offering is……
House of Rum Panama 2004. Today we are returning to Central America courtesy of House of Rum with a bottling sourced from Varela Hermanos Distillery. Rather than the mythical Las Cabras Distillery of Don Pancho fame.
Varela Hermanos is known as much for exporting bulk rum to the main Rum brokers around the world, as it is for its flagship brand Ron Abuelo. In all fairness the “Spanish” style of rum is not something that I enthuse about much on the blog. This is as much in part due to the “fairy tales” and denial of additives, as it is the quality of the actual rum.

I’m not much of a Sci-Fi nut if I am being honest. Which seems quite uncommon amongst my fellow Rum Enthusiasts. Many of whom appear to be a lot more “geeky” with regard Sci-Fi/Marvel/DC and all that carry on. Well actually a lot of them are a lot more geeky than me about rum as well.
Hurricane Overproof Manx Rum. Outlier Distilling Company first came to my attention at the 2023 (I think) London Rum Festival. There was quite a bit of talk at that festival about their bottlings. In particular this Overproof Rum.
I tend to take any kind of hype at London Rum Festival, or indeed any other rum festival with a pinch of salt. There are still a lot of people at these events who are very much in the Spiced/Flavoured crowd and also a lot of people still find the idea of anything over 40% ABV as something “strong” and almost unheard of. A novelty which they see as exciting and dangerous. So they talk about it quite a bit – partly out of excitement and partly because they aren’t used to it……..
Bedford Park Foursquare 2006. Ahhh Fond Memories – Foursquare 2006 that elusive first Velier/Foursquare collaboration. Now as rare as hens teeth and stupidly expensive even if you do find a bottle for sale.
Whether Bedford Park have deliberately released a Foursquare 2006 to “cash in” on the fuss that the original Velier bottle created, I’m not sure.
Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength Barbados Rum. I don’t spend as much time reading about Rum as I used to. Two young children have partly seen to that! Due to this I was under the mis-conception that this new release from Mount Gay was only available in Barbados!
I’m not quite sure why really maybe because it is noted as “Limited Edition”? Also, from what little rum viewing I was able to do on the Internet over the past few months I only really saw people returning from Barbados showing off this rum. A couple of weeks ago I noticed, however that a number of people in my Facebook group “The UK Rum Club” were posting and talking about this rum……
Cassario Golden Rum. I reviewed a “Gold Rum” from the Cassario brand a few years ago.It was 2022 to be precise. Back then, discount supermarket ALDI were offering a 7 Year Old Costa Rican rum at £17.99. In the current “cost of living” crisis they are now stocking a NAS “Barbados Golden Rum” from an un-named distillery at £16.99.
