Elements Eight Fine Aged Platinum

Elements Eight Platinum rum review by the fat rum pirateElements Eight Fine Aged Platinum rum hails from the island of St Lucia.  Elements Eight is the brainchild of Carl Stephenson (whose past employers include Wray and Nephew).  Their rums have won numerous awards since they were launched back in 2006.

Platinum is a premium white rum.  Unlike many white rums it is actually an aged rum.  Aged up to 4 years in ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels.  It is then gently filtered to remove any colour. Leaving a very clean, crisp spirit behind.  Unlike many rums bottled by UK companies this has been entirely tropically aged. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Pampero Ron Anejo Blanco

Pampero Blanco Rum Review by the fat rum piratePampero Blanco along with the others rum in the producers range have recently had a makeover.  Makeovers in rum seem frequent.  Although this blog has only been running since 2014 you will already notice that a number of bottles reviewed have since had their packaging changed.

In this instance the makeover is more of an update really.  Giving the rums a more modern feel.  For Pampero Blanco the company have opted to move the rum from a tall bar style bottle into a shorter, rounder stubbier bottle. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Karukera Silver

Karukera are an Agricole Rhum producer from Guadeloupe. Karukera is the original
Arawak (Caribbean Indan) name for Guadeloupe. Despite the very slick presentation (which caused me to overlook this brand) Karukera have been distilling and producing rhum since 189Karukera Silver Rum Review by the fat rum pirate5.

The Esperence distillery in Sainte Marie – “Certain Origins do not Deceive” is the companies tag line.  Karukera have a very nice website unfortunately for me its all in French and resists translation.  There is a lot of information there and I can pick out bits but not a lot unfortunately! In all honesty the relatively modern presentation of all the Karukera rhums make me wonder if all this history is entirely correct. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Upto now the site has focused on rums and spiced rums.  We have featured the occasional liqueur but never any pre-mixed drinks or any of the “rum beers” which have sprung up over the past couple of years. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
