Plantation O.F.T.D. – Old Fashioned Traditional Dark

Plantation O.F.T.D. OFTD Rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation O.F.T.D is another trip into history from the French producers.  Following on from the Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple rum, O.F.T.D. which stands for Old Fashioned Traditional Dark is another attempt at recapturing the rum glories of old.

The rum seems to be a replcacement for the brands older Original Dark Overproof rum.  This means that both the Overproof and standard proof Original Dark rum have been given an overhaul.  Both rums were originally made up of rum from Trinidad.  I personally didn’t care much for either and went as far as suggesting the standard Original Dark was no better than supermarket rum such as Tesco’s Dark Rum – which is also a Trinidad “blend”.  As a result neither rum scored particularly highly. Cacique 500 Extra Anejo Gran Reserva

Cacique 500 Gran Anejo Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCacique is a rum brand from Venezuela. Home of Pampero and Santa Teresa.  Produced by Destilerias Unidas S.A,  (DUSA).  The distillery best known for arguably the most recognisable Venezeulan rum brand – Diplomatico.  The brand is now owned by industry giant Diageo.  Quite what relevance Cacique 500 has I’ve been unable to find out? I guess it might be some kind of anniversary, perhaps. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Duncan Taylor Single Cask Rum – Jamaica Long Pond Aged 15 Years (Cask 65)

Duncan Taylor Jamaica Long Pond 200 Single cask rum review by the fat rum pirateDuncan Taylor are a Whisky and Rum bottler from Aberdeen, Scotland.  They have been selling their rums in distinctive flask style bottles for a number of years now.

Like another Independent bottler, Mezan they keep a very similar presentation for each rum.  With them releasing so many rums, some differing only by a cask number it can make deciding on what to buy quite tricky! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Berrys’ St Lucia Rum Aged 14 Years

Berrys Bros and Rudd St Lucia Rum Aged 14 Years Rum review by the fat rum pirateBerrys’ or Berrys’ Bros and Rudd are an Independent bottler. We have featured their offerings on this site on a few occasions already.  This is the second Berrys’ St Lucia rum to be reviewed.

They bottle a wide variety of rums from familiar rum producing islands and nations.  Ocassionally they dip their toe in less well established islands, such as Fiji.  Here we have a rum from an island which is growing its reputation and becoming well respected in the rum world. Red Bonny Dark Rum

Red Bonny Dark Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRed Bonny Dark Rum a rum which has been on my rader for quite some time.  I did expect to pick it up at a bit of discount at some point but that just never materialised.

Costing around £23 for a 70cl bottle with an ABV of 40% this is not a terribly expensive rum.  It has surprisingly held a very rigid price online.  I fully expected one of the larger supermarkets to stock this rum at some point but this doesn’t look like it is going to happen either!
