Ultimatum Sancti Spirits 1999 Cuban Rum 18 Year Old

Ultimatum Rum Sancti Spiritus 18 Year Old Review by the fat rum pirateUltimatum Sancti Spiritus 1999 Cuban Rum. Ultimatum are a relatively new bottler.  Most of their products are coming out of Dutch retailers so I assume they are based somewhere around there.  Ultimatum Rum seems to be an off-shoot of the Little Distiller.

They have released a number of bottlings over the past year or so (I have a few more yet to review) and have received generally positive feedback for their efforts.  The first thing they have been commended on is the price.  They are very reasonably priced. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron Cartavio Solera 12 Years

Ron Cartavio Solera 12 Rum Review by the fat rum piratRon Cartavio Solera 12 Years, hails like Paddington Bear from Peru. Whether it is deepest darkest Peru I am not quite sure but its definitely Peru.  Alongside Ron Cartavio sits Ron Millonario as Peru’s other notable rum.

Both rums are exported outside of Latin America and both Cartavio and Millonario are regularly available here in the UK.  I make no apologies for the title of this review – that is how the rum is labelled by the producers.  That is how I arrive at my titles, in an attempt to make things as clear as possible.  From a personal viewpoint I don’t think Solera 12 Years is clear in terms of the true age of this product.  Being honest its a crock of shit. Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo

Ron Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSantiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo is rumoured to have been Fidel Castro’s favourite rum. Which is interesting. A lot of the reasons why researching Cuban rum can be so complex is down to him and his revolution!

Which is about as political as I am ever likely to get on this blog.  Whether this was Castro’s favourite rum is an interesting aside but nothing more.  I dare say if I was the President I would have wanted something more luxurious. Maybe he just liked this one the best. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kill Devil Cuba 17 Year Old 1999

kill devil cuba santci spiritus rum review by the fat rum pirateKill Devil are and ever increasing range of Independently bottled rums from Whisky bottler Hunter Laing.  Unsurprisingly perhaps Whisky based online retailers such as The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt have been stocking their rums from the outset.

As a curious rum consumer and a lover of Independent bottlers I’ve found myself with a good few bottles and samples. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Premium Rum The Impossible Task? – Part Two

premium rum the impossible task part two by the fat rum pirateIn the first part of this series we touched upon how rums are labelled.  I used an example to show how confusing it can be to determine a Premium rum.

Marketing and packaging play a huge role in what the end consumer buys.  No matter who you are, you will encounter and be influenced by marketing at some stage.  Even if you think you aren’t. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Flor de Cana 5 Anejo Clasico

Flor de Cana 5 Anejo Clasico Rum review by the fat rum pirateUp for review is another rum from the Flor de Cana range from Nicaragua.  It has taken a while for me to review many of the Flor de Cana rums, as I was disappointed with my experience when I bought the Centenario 12. This is the Flor de Cana 5 – Anejo Clasico.

The increase in decent rum on our supermarket shelves gave me an easy opportunity to pick up this gold rum from their line up. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
