Rum-Bar White Overproof

Rum-Bar White Overproof rum review by the fat rum pirateRum-Bar Rum is a brand which is part of the Rum-Bar Brand family.

They have two types of rum; Overproof and Gold, plus a Rum Cream Liqueur and even a Vodka all from the Worthy Park Estate in Jamaica.

Rum-Bar Rum is the original core product and is in the Overproof Rum Category.

A direct competitor for the more established Wray Nephew White Overproof. Similarities between Rum-Bar White Overproof and Wray & Nephew are immediate – both use the colours of the Jamaican flag – Yellow, Green and Black and come in tall clear bottles which display the crystal liquid inside. This offering from Worthy Park has a slightly more contempory feel to it.  The Rum-Bar branding and the Worthy Park emblem are striking and give this rum its own clear identity. The rum is currently available in the UK in 200ml bottles at Tesco (who also stock Wray & Nephew) and online from Ashanti drinks. Westerhall Estate White Jack

White Jack Westerhall rum review by the fat rum pirateWhite Jack is a rum produced by Westerhall Estate.  It is named White Jack as it is actually another celebrity tie in.  None other than Jack White of The White Stripes commissioned this White Overproof rum.

Okay that’s a lie but it’s safe to say that when I tried to “Google” some information on White Jack, I got far more results about the Top Hat and Trilby wearing front man of the American Lo-Fi Garage Rock duo than I did about White Jack! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Westerhall Estate Jack Iron

Jack Iron Rum Review by the fat rum pirateWesterhall Estate Jack Iron Rum is a lightly coloured overproof rum from Grenada.

Distillation of rum at Westerhall Estate no longer takes place.  Instead rum is imported from the Angostura Distillery in Trinidad.  It is then blended and bottled at what remains of the Westerhall Estate.

The Estate acts more as a bottling plant and visitor centre now.  It is sad that so many distilleries no longer produce their own rums but unfortunately like so many smaller distillers – competing with the big hitters is proving increasingly difficult. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum of the Month August 2015

Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum of the month fat rum pirateAs it is supposed to be British Summer Time, I thought I would make this months Rum of the Month a summer rum.  So I decided to go with this fantastic Overproof mixer.

As you can see Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum is traditionally drank on Jamaica with Ting.  A Jamaican grapefruit soda and plenty of ice.  This a potent Overproof mixing rum but nonetheless a very good one.  To read the original review please click on the link or photo. Pusser’s Rum British Navy (75% ABV)

Pussers Rum Overproof Green Label Rum review by the fat rum piratePusser’s relaunched their rums in 2014 to stop all the confusion about the various Blue Labelled rums floating around different parts of the world at varying strengths.

One of the rums that caused the least confusion was this one.  Not because the bottle does not immediately make you think it is one of their lower proof rums but because it was and is only available in one country. For some reason our German cousins were not satisfied with a meagre 54.5% ABV rum and demanded more so this 75% ABV expression was launched for the German market only.  Thanks to the guys at Beers of Europe I was able to obtain a bottle for £49.99.  Which sounds quite expensive but once I’ve explained exactly how this 75% ABV rum SHOULD be drank you will see I wasn’t stung too badly. Smith & Cross London Traditional Jamaica Rum

SMITH AND CROSS Jamaica Rum Review OverproofSmith & Cross can trace their heritage back as far as 1788, producing of sugar and spirits.  Importing vast quantities of rum and sugar from Jamaica.  At one point they had a Sugar Distillery at 203 Thames Street at the old London docks. on the banks of the River Thames.

Smith & Cross is a 100% Jamaican pot still rum.  It is distilled in Jamaica at the famous Hampden Estate, who still produce their own line of rums.  The rum is produced from molasses, cane juice and syrup from freshly pressed sugar cane.  It is a mixture of heavy Wedderburn pot still rum (aged for only six months) and the more medium bodied Plummer, which is aged for up to 3 years in our old friend the bourbon barrel.  For further detailed information try http://www.alpenz.com/images/poftfolio/smithcross114rum.htm they will explain things far better than I ever could! Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum

Woods Navy Rum Review DemeraraYet another Demerara rum with a very British twist to it. Along with brands such as Lambs, OVD and Skipper us Brit’s certainly do seem to enjoy importing dark Guyanese rums and bottling them up for public consumption.

The rum comes in normal bar style bottle with a label which is old fashioned and in similar ilk to that of Skipper. The makers of these rum’s certainly don’t seem to be going for the younger sexy end of the market. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
