Chairman’s Reserve White Label

Chairman's Reserve White Label Rum review by the fat rum pirateChairman’s Reserve White Label is the latest white rum up for review.  Regular readers will be aware of my fondness for the regular Chairman’s Reserve and other offerings from the excellent St Lucia Distillers.

St Lucia Distillers produce a fine range of blended pot and column still rums and I would thoroughly recommend anyone who is serious about authentic rum seeks out their offerings.  I’ve reviewed most of the rum that is available in the UK and decided to round off a recent round up of a few white rums with this offering. Lemon Hart 151 Premium Rum

Lemon Hart 151 the fat rum pirate rum reviewOver two centuries ago Lehmann (Lemon) Hart was named an official purveyor of rum to the British Royal Navy, subsequently establishing the Lemon Hart Rum Company in London, England, in 1804.

Whether Mr Hart ever intended a 151 Lemon Hart to become Tiki staple is improbable but this particular rum is the most iconic of Lemon’s legacy.  What is even more improbable is that the Lemon Hart Rum Company of late would be based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  That is however what has become of the man’s legacy. The Duppy Share Caribbean Rum

The Duppy Share Caribbean Rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Duppies are Caribbean spirits who steal Caribbean rum hopping from island to island, keeping the best for themselves.

The Duppy Share is named after this fairy story (or the story was made for the rum I’m not sure).  It’s a twist on the Angel’s Share tale. I was initially pretty disinterested in trying this rum which was released just last year.  I read the press release and gave a little groan.  Rums blended from different sources don’t really grab my attention and I don’t tend to buy my rum based on fairy tales….. However, fair play to the team behind The Duppy Share they have certainly produced a very attractive website.  Their marketing team is also doing something right because the rum is available in a number of premium Department Stores in the UK. Santa Teresa 1796

Santa Teresa 1796 rum review by the fat rum pirateI’m sure anyone with a decent appreciation of rum will be able to guess why this Santa Teresa 1796 is named so.  Yes, got it in one this was the year the distillery first went into production.

This rum introduced in 1996 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the distillery. It is bottled by C.A Ron Santa Teresa and is distributed in the UK by Coe Vintners of Essex.  The rum is bottled at 40% ABV and a 70cl bottle will set you back between £40-45. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Tiburon Rum

TIburon Rum Review by the fat rum pirateTiburon Rum is the latest release from Traveller’s Liquors of Belize.  Rum from Traveller’s Liquors is not readily available in the UK.  I have previously tried only one of Traveller’s offerings One Barrel Rum.  Which despite favourable reviews from other sites and a few “awards” was not appraised to well by myself. Admiral Vernon’s Old J Spiced

Admiral Vernon Old J Spiced Rum review by the fat rum pirateAdmiral Edward Vernon AKA “Old Grog” was responsible for a reduction in the British Royal Navy’s rum ration in 1740.  Many of the sailors were dissatisfied with the dilution of their rum ration and legend has it that Admiral Vernon suggested the men spruce up their “tot” with sugar and limes. Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum

Cruzan Single Barrel Estate RumCruzan are a very popular bottler of low to medium price rum in the USA.  Sales of Cruzan in the US are high and you will frequently see articles relating to Cruzan’s Diamond and Blackstrap rums.  These rums are used mainly in the mixology and are popular with bartenders.

Cruzan’s Single Barrel Estate rum is (to my knowledge) their high end product.  Cruzan are based on the US Virgin Isles and as a result the firm benefit from subsidies from the US government.  These subsidies are a massive bone of contention amongst other rum producers in the Caribbean.  Rightly so.
