Ron Millonario XO hails from deepest darkest Peru. The brand Millonario has been around since 1950 but has only been available globally since 2004.
In 2004 Fabio Rossi (of Rum Nation) visited Peru and discovered the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo where the rum is distilled. Ron Millonario XO is distilled on a Blair, Campbell and McLean column stills. There are two expressions in the Ron Millionario range the Solera 15 and this the XO.
Diplomatico Ambassador was launched in London, England in 2011. It is currently the most expensive of the various rums available under the Diplomatico brand.
Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is regularly cited as being one of the best rums in the world. In all fairness it isn’t really but what it does offer is a soft, easy and very sugary entry into “sipping rums”. Having said that many will stay loyal to rums such as Diplomatico.
Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Rum will be for many the top of the tree in terms of Appleton tasting.
With the Appleton Estate 21 Year Old coming in (depending on how savvy you shop), at just over £100, the 30 Year Old now largely unavailable and the Exclusive only available at the Appleton Distillery, it is unlikely many will make the jump from a £100 rum to the next readily available rum. The 50 Year Old. The £3500 price tag will put off most of you reading this review.
St Lucia Distillers are famous for producing Chairman’s Reserve, Bounty (mainly for the domestic market) and Admiral Rodney.
1931 is a rum brought onto the market in 2011 to commemorate 80 years of the Dennery Distillery, St Lucia. In 1972 the Dennery and the Roseau Distilleries merged and formed the company we have now, St Lucia Distillers.
A new Caribbean Island for me with this particular rum (not that I’ve visited any yet!). St Vincent Distillers Limited produce Captain Bligh XO Reserve Rum amongst others such as Sparrow’s and Sunset Light Rum.
For those who are unfamiliar Captain (William) Bligh was the in charge of HMS Bounty at the time of the infamous mutiny. He also led a battle against a corrupt rum trade when governor of New South Wales, Australia. His voyages helped establish St Vincent’s botanical gardens also.
