Plantation 3 Stars Artisanal Rum

Plantation 3 stars rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation 3 Stars is a white rum from the French based bottling giant Plantation .  The name is coined from the 3 “stars” of the Caribbean from which the rum is obtained.  Namely Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad.  As with most of the Plantation rums there is no age statement.

White rum hasn’t featured a great deal on the site so far.  This is something I am trying to address.  Whilst white rum is often seen as mixing rum for cocktails such as the Daiquiri and the Mojito, I have noted that this and the El Dorado 3 Years Cask Aged have received favourable reviews by other reviewers. Caroni 100% Trinidad Rum Aged 12 Years by Velier

Caroni Trinidad rum review the fat rum pirate VelierDistilled in 2000 from the last Trinidad molasses and bottled in 2012.  This rum from the famous Caroni Distillery has been bottled by Italian company Velier.

As my rum journey has progressed (I hope with my assistance some of you have a smoother journey than me!) I have read a great deal about the now defunct Caroni Distillery.  Caroni is famous for “Heavy Rum” and rums from the distillery can now fetch quite mind boggling prices.  I have been fortunate enough to pick up both this and a 16-year-old Caroni (The Ancient Mariner) for under £50 per bottle. Ancient Mariner Navy Rum

Ancient Mariner RumAncient Mariner Navy Rum.  To be honest if I had been told such a rum existed I would have immediately expected a very cheap “West Indies” blend of rum.  I would have expected such as rum to have been available in a local convenience store as their own brand rum.  A horribly designed label (complete with sailors and ships) standard cheap bar bottle, awful cheap screw cap and a price tag to match. VAT 19 Golden Rum

Vat 19 Golden Rum Trinidad ReviewThe wonders of the internet and high street phenomenon Black Friday led me to finally putting a bottle of VAT 19 into my shopping basket.  UK based online retailer  http://www.drinksupermarket.com had 20% off everything on sale.  Drink Supermarket tend to stock less higher end products than most online booze merchants.  So I was able to pick up a good few entry and lower level rums.  They seem to focus on rum’s they can actually sell…….I’ve had a good few rums with a lot of dust on them from other retailers! Pusser’s Rum British Navy (40% ABV)

imageMuch to my uncontrollable excitement Pusser’s Rum Ltd, recently re-vamped (and to be fair tidied up) their range of rums.  This was done partly to introduce new expressions but also to avoid confusion caused by the numerous “Blue Label” versions on offer in varying territories. Lemon Hart White Rum

Lemon Hart White Rum Demerara Guyana ReviewLemon Hart is a rum brand which as intrigued me for some time.  Talked about regularly on websites devoted to rum, yet strangely absent from the country where it is blended and bottled.  I’ve never come across a bottle of Lemon Hart rum in any store in the UK – ever.  Only very recently I notice that The Whisky Exchange have recently begun stocking their Dark rum and the 151 proof.  These rum’s seem very popular over the pond. Angostura 1919 Premium Rum

Angostura 1919 rum review A premium rum from Angostura (of Angostura Bitters fame) from the home Dwight Yorke. 1919 is the year this blend of rum was first casked.  The rum is aged 8 years in (what else) ex Bourbon barrels.  The bottle states that they believe it “will be the smoothest rum you have ever tasted with notes of oak, cocoa and vanilla”.
