Captain Bligh XO Special Reserve Rum

Captain Bligh XO Reserve RumA new Caribbean Island for me with this particular rum (not that I’ve visited any yet!).  St Vincent Distillers Limited produce Captain Bligh XO Reserve Rum amongst others such as Sparrow’s and Sunset Light Rum.

For those who are unfamiliar Captain (William) Bligh was the in charge of HMS Bounty at the time of the infamous mutiny.  He also led a battle against a corrupt rum trade when governor of New South Wales, Australia.  His voyages helped establish St Vincent’s botanical gardens also. Myers’s Rum Original Dark

Myers's Rum Original Dark Rum Review by fatrumpirate fat rum pirateMyers’s Rum as recognisable a Dark Rum as Bacardi Superior is a White Rum. World Famous proclaims the bottle and for once this isn’t marketing hype.

Myers’s has been in production since 1879.  It is a blend  of up to 9 continuous and pot stilled Jamaican rums.  It is aged for up to 4 years in small oak barrels. The rum is produced by National Rums of Jamaica Ltd (Long Pond/Monymusk Distilleries) and is bottled by Myers Rum Company in Nassau, Bahamas.  The front of the bottle states that is the company which succeeded Fred L Myers of Kingston, Jamaica.  The rear of the bottle states that the rum was imported into the UK by Fred L Myers and Son Co. London.  The brand overall is owned by beverage powerhouse Diageo. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Pusser’s Rum British Navy (40% ABV)

imageMuch to my uncontrollable excitement Pusser’s Rum Ltd, recently re-vamped (and to be fair tidied up) their range of rums.  This was done partly to introduce new expressions but also to avoid confusion caused by the numerous “Blue Label” versions on offer in varying territories. Chairman’s Reserve Spiced

Chairman's Reserve Spiced St Lucia Rum ReviewAnyone who has bothered to read any of my rum related ramblings, will be more than aware of my love of Chairman’s Reserve.  Despite being a relatively young and inexpensive rum (freely available in Sainsburys supermarket for £20) it captured my heart very early on in my rum journey.

The double distilled mix of pot and continuous still rum’s offer an authentic and unadulterated rum experience which at the £20 price point is difficult to beat.  With the success of The Kraken and Sailor Jerry I’m always a little miffed that Sainsbury’s have never stocked the Spiced Chairman’s Reserve as they do the standard offering.  I first tried this rum a couple of years ago.  In many ways I’m pleased I left starting my blog until I had tried a good number of rum’s.  I feel only now am I beginning to develop any kind of understanding of the various rum’s on offer. Pusser’s Rum Spiced

Pussers Spiced Rum Navy Demerara Guyana ReviewPusser’s Spiced is probably the quickest rum purchase I have ever made.  I heard about Pusser’s updating their line of rum earlier this year and in the press release it was noted that a “Spiced” variant was in the offing.  I had waited patiently for the Spiced to go on sale and as soon as I saw it available, on Drinks Direct it was in the basket, ordered and paid with Paypal within 2 minutes! (along with the new 40% Blue Label).
