Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum has been around for some time. (At least 15 years I can hear someone saying……) I first reviewed it a few years ago. I do intend to re-review some of the rums I have covered going forward. To be honest, Pusser’s 15 Year Old was one that would have had that treatment bestowed upon it anyway – miniatures of the rum are readily available. Which makes it easier on the wallet.

Lamb’s Demerara Navy Rum. I don’t know exactly when this was bottled. Research has shown that this style of bottle was available in the 1970’s (and before). The UK largely stopped using their own “proof” calculation in 1980 and began showing the ABV rather than the proof. Whilst this is noted as 70 proof on the bottle, it’s the old “British” style proofing so it translates to 40% ABV. The same ABV Lamb’s Navy Rum is today.
Wood’s Old Navy Rum. Wood’s is a Navy rum brand which is quite a staple in UK bars and Working Mens Clubs. It’s not quite as common as Lamb’s – partly due to its ABV, but it is probably the second best-selling Navy rum in the UK.
You will probably find a number of “old timers” proclaiming the joys of Rum and Pep (Peppermint cordial) or Rum and Black (Blackcurrant cordial) they will likely know all about Woods Navy Rum or Wood’s 100.
A.H Riise Royal Danish Navy Rum is another take on Navy Rum. This time though the focus is on the Royal Danish Navy. I would be lying if I said I was particularly acquainted with the exploits of the Danish Navy.
A.H Riise was no doubt a high ranking figure in the Danish Navy or some almightly war hero. No he as was actually a pharmacist. His links to rum seem to be that he sold and imported rum from the West Indies to Denmark.
The Rum Festival Newcastle was one of the events organised by Lucy Douglas and her team. Lucy is behind a travelling Rum Festival. Visiting towns and cities throughout the UK during 2017.
The Festival took place at Hoult’s Yard a office/create hub/venue just 5 minutes drive from Newcastle City Centre in Byker. Yes that Byker of Byker Grove fame. No before you ask Ant and Dec weren’t in attendance. Neither was Jimmy Nail, Sting or Gazza.
