Lamb’s Demerara Navy Rum – Bottled 1970’s

Lamb's Demerara Navy rum 70's bottling Rum review by the fat rum pirate Lamb’s Demerara Navy Rum. I don’t know exactly when this was bottled. Research has shown that this style of bottle was available in the 1970’s (and before). The UK largely stopped using their own “proof” calculation in 1980 and began showing the ABV rather than the proof. Whilst this is noted as 70 proof on the bottle, it’s the old “British” style proofing so it translates to 40% ABV. The same ABV Lamb’s Navy Rum is today. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Wood’s Old Navy Rum

Wood's Old Navy Rum Review by the fat rum pirateWood’s Old Navy Rum. Wood’s is a Navy rum brand which is quite a staple in UK bars and Working Mens Clubs. It’s not quite as common as Lamb’s – partly due to its ABV, but it is probably the second best-selling Navy rum in the UK.

You will probably find a number of  “old timers” proclaiming the joys of Rum and Pep (Peppermint cordial) or Rum and Black (Blackcurrant cordial) they will likely know all about Woods Navy Rum or Wood’s 100. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Watson’s Trawler Rum

Watson's Trawler Rum review by the fat rum pirateWatson’s Trawler Rum is another dark navy style rum from “up north”.  Scotland has a real tradition when it comes to rum.  Many famous Independent bottlers such as obvious ones like Cadenhead’s and Duncan Taylor age their rums in Scotland.  Surprisingly for some, Italian bottlers such as Samaroli and Silver Seal also age their rums up there. A.H Riise Royal Danish Navy Rum

A.H Riise A.H Riise Royal Danish Navy Rum review by the fat rum pirateRoyal Danish Navy Rum is another take on Navy Rum.  This time though the focus is on the Royal Danish Navy.  I would be lying if I said I was particularly acquainted with the exploits of the Danish Navy.

A.H Riise was no doubt a high ranking figure in the Danish Navy or some almightly war hero.  No he as was actually a pharmacist.  His links to rum seem to be that he sold and imported rum from the West Indies to Denmark. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Black Tot 40 Year Old Demerara Rum

BLACK TOT 40 Year Old Demerara Rum Review by the fat rum pirateBlack Tot 40 Year Old Demerara Rum is the latest release from independent bottlers Elixir Distillers.  The rum has been released to pay homage to the British Royal Navy.  Unlike the original Black Tot release which was released in 2011 this is not a rum which was available to the Royal British Navy. Whisky Broker – Rum Distilled at Diamond Distillery Guyana Aged 12 Years

Whisky Broker Whiskybroker Demerara Rum 12 years review by the fat rum pirateA Demerara rum from Whiskybroker.  Whisky Broker seem to be a company that goes down the Ronseal route of promotion by doing “Exactly what it says on the tin”. So apologies for the slightly long title for this particular review.  They have declined to give their first rum bottling a snappier title.
