Cachaca de Salinas Piragibana. The secrets of Mr. Juvenito. This Premium Cachaca has been produced since 1974 and was originally produced by Senhor Deka of “Havana” (another very well regarded Premium Cachaca – we will review that soon) alongside Ney Correa, who passed on his great knowledge of Cachaca to Juventino Gomes de Miranda.

Tellura Prata. Tellura is a recent addition to the Cachaca producing family in Brasil. Formed in 2015 Tellura with the aim to produce quality, handmade and sustainable Cachaca.
Cachaca has been produced at Abadia Farm, Campos dos Gotacazes in the north of the state of Rio de Janeiro for over 100 years. Tellingly Tellura is located strategically just 48km to Port do Acu so it is already, geared to export outside of Brasil.
Cachaca Santa Terezinha has been produced in Marechal Floriano, Espirito Santo since 1943. It is a young white Cachaca with minimal ageing. The brand work with Brasillian artists to create their distinctive labelling and packaging.
It is aged in Cerejeira casks, for 6 months. Cerejeira is a wood Native to Brasil. Which gives the Cachaca its distinictive character.To produce Santa Terezinha a 50/50 mix of boiled sugar-cane “broth” and cold broth is fermented for 4 to 5 days with toasted bagasse and a handful of corn-flour. Whilst this broth is fermenting a fire is set up in the same room where orange or tangerine leaves are burned.
Dom Bre Ouro Carvalho. Hailing from the Guarani Distillery in the state of Minas Gerais comes Dom Bre. “Cachaca Con Arte” as the label goes.
I have noticed that the Cachaca producers seem very keen to point out the artisan aspects of their production. Also they seem very keen on pointing out how sustainable and ecologically sound their production facilities are. I’ll confess I’m not all that “green” minded but I am sure such practices will appeal to a good number of people. Just maybe forget about the fact the Cachaca has to be transported from Brasil to Europe…..
Cachaca Mandaguahy Amendoim. As noted with last weeks review of Cachaca Fuzue I will be writing quite a bit about Cachaca from now on. With so many rum reviews online and so little written about Cachaca in English I feel it is a good opportunity to help us all learn a little more about Cachaca.
Many of the brands I will be covering will be unfamiliar to the European and American market. Many are very much domestic products. However, the House of Cachaca are trying to lift the profile of Cachaca beyond just Brasil.
Cachaca Fuzue Amendoim. I recently attended the UK Cachaca Festivals in Manchester. At the event I discovered a number of Cachaca’s that I had previously never seen nor heard of. Despite being the national spirit of Brasil, Cachaca has struggle to gain interest outside of its home country.
Cadenhead’s BMC Epris Distillery is another offering from the Scottish Independent bottler. More famous for their numerous whisky bottlings Cadenhead’s regularly release rums. Many are your usual Demerara and Bajan offerings but they also bottle rum from more exotic locations such as Belize, Nicaragua and with this offering Brasil.
