Foursquare Rum Distillery 2008. There was a popular Pop Hit some years ago by the Boy/Girl Groups Steps called 5,6,7,8, which immediately came to mind when I first saw Foursquare 2008.
Quite why is a bit questionable, as although they have released a Foursquare 2005,2006,2007 and 2008 one of those was the “Black” (or should that be Golden) sheep of the family.
The Real McCoy Aged 14 Years Limited Edition. It has been pretty difficult, make that nigh on impossible to keep track of every bottling that has hailed from Foursquare over the past few years. There are a huge variety of Official Bottlings (OB’s), Independent Bottlings (IB’s), collaborations between OB’s and IB’s and finally Rum Brands such as
Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend. Until pretty recent times Mount Gay were a bit of a one trick pony. They have and likely always will make their money selling truckloads of their “entry level” Eclipse rums. In particular the “Gold” variant of Eclipse as the “White” or “Silver” can be quite tricky to find here in the UK. By tricky I mean pretty much impossible. I have only ever seen it for sale once in the EU and I bought (a rather overpriced) bottle as soon as I saw it.
Cockspur Old Gold Special Reserve Rum. I always think of the cricket, when I see Cockspur. Which is strange, because aside from being a mean left handed fast bowler in my youth, my adversity to having small hard things thrown at me at speeds of up to 60mph, largely diminished my interest in the game.
The Real McCoy Aged 5 Years. The Real McCoy is a rum brand with one of the few “honest” back stories. Indeed the commonly used term “The Real McCoy” was coined from the legendary rum runner Bill McCoy. Who smuggled rum into the US during the prohibition era. He never adulterated his product and as a result people began asking for “The Real McCoy” as a sign of a quality spirit.
The Real McCoy Aged 10 Years Limited Edition Rum. It’s proving quite dificult trying to keep pace with the output from the Foursquare Rum Distillery. Not content with various re-vamped releases from their existing portfolio such as higher ABV offerings of R L Seale’s, Doorly’s 3 Year Old and Doorly’s XO. Foursquare have also added further aged Doorly’s at 12 and 14 Years old and numerous (we are now up to release number 12) Exceptional Cask Series rums in the past 5 years alone.
Foursquare Rum Distillery Nobiliary. As I write and had I not had issues with my (un)trusty old laptop I would have had this review published earlier, this particular bottling is only available in the UK from our good friends over at The Whisky Exchange. Who due to demand are currently in the process of re-listing this whilst ensuring they have sufficient bottles to send to those who purchased last week. I think they have re-listed it now
