The Duppy Share XO. I’ve been waiting a while for this release. I first heard about it a few months back. It’s a rum which I think will appeal to a lot of consumers.
Presentation wise its certainly very interesting. Combining the classic Duppy Share stubby bottle with a new colour scheme (which proves a little tricky to photograph but is very striking nonetheless).
Dràm Mòr Single Cask Rum Diamond Distillery Aged 10 Years. I said when reviewing the Dràm Mòr Fiji bottling a couple of days ago that I would get their other Spring release reviewed as quickly as I could. So here we are…….
This rum hails from the Diamond Distillery, Guyana which is the home of Demerara Distillers Limited. Who produce the El Dorado range of rums and also sell a lot of bulk rum.
Dràm Mòr Single Cask Rum Fiji Distillery Aged 12 Years. I suppose saying this rum comes from “Fiji Distillery” isn’t really all that inaccurate. Whilst the actual distillery is perhaps better known, to those who actually know about Fijian rum, as South Pacific Distillery it is the only rum distillery on Fiji.
That Boutique-y Rum Company Haiti 17 Year Old. This is the third release of Haitian rum from That Boutique-y Rum Company. Over the past few years the Haitian spirit scene has seen a bit growth and it has headed in a direction which few would have perhaps envisaged 10 years ago.
Please note, I have stated the Haitian spirit scene rather than the “R(h)um” scene. This is because unlike some other commentators I won’t try and pigeon hole the (mostly) unaged cane spirit produced by so many small/micro distilleries as “rum”. For the very simple reason that those producing the spirit do not refer to it as rum. They call it “Clairin” (with variations on the spelling) so like “Cachaca” I will stick to calling it as it is. Rather than what might suit me or the western world.
J Gow Wild Yeast Series NMO 2020. We are back in bonny Scotland, well more accurately the Orkney Islands and the small island of Lamb Holm. Which is where Collin Van Schayk has decided to set up a rum distillery.
This may seem a very odd decision but Collin’s father Emile owns the award winning Orkney Wine Company so a career in the “booze” industry was perhaps his destiny.
Cassario Gold Rum Reserva Siete Aged 7 Years. Most websites probably wouldn’t bother reviewing rum from a Supermarket. However, “budget” retailers LIDL and ALDI do tend to go beyond the usual White, Dark and Spiced offerings and give the consumer something a little more interesting. If not necessarily ground breaking.
Jack Tar La Lune Cosmic Series Distilled at Caroni 1997. Alongside the mythical Velier Demerara bottlings and the more recent Foursquare Velier/ECS releases – Caroni has remained high on the agenda of many rum collectors and enthusiasts.
The fact that the distillery has been closed since the turn of the century, really hasn’t seem to have restricted the availability of the rum from Caroni. A lot of this has been bottled by the likes of Velier, Bristol Spirits and Cadenhead’s. Newer bottlers such as The Colours of Rum and Jack Tar are also increasingly getting in on the act.
