When “Premium” Rum is spoken about Velier really should be seen as the pinnacle if any such category really, truly exists. Especially when it comes to Demerara Rum from the Diamond Distillery.
With the luxury of being able to hand pick and barter for his own individual casks from the distillery Luca Gargano has his own unique foothold into Demerara Distillers huge stock of aged rums. Or he did………
Stiggins’ Fancy 1824 Recipe Pineapple Rum has finally hit UK shores. Plantation the makers of this rum have certainly created a real buzz around this and the sole current stockist of this rum have been overwhelmed with demand for this product.
Rum brand Plantation is owned by Maison/Cognac Ferrand and whilst they may not be quite in the same league as industry giants Bacardi International and Diageo they certainly know how to market their Plantation line of rums.
Kill Devil is an old fashioned term for rum but this is a very new rum brand. Coming from independent whisky bottler Hunter-Laing. I came across these distinctive bottlings for the first time on a German website 4finespirits. I was interested in trying them but importing spirits into the UK can be a bit of minefield (the German’s also have a different rate of VAT which further complicates things) so I passed over buying them straight away.
Ron Cubay Anejo is a Cuban rum. In 1964 Ron Cubay was founded in Santo Domingo, Villa Clara. Ron Cubay rums are produced by Cuba Ron S.A which also produce Havana Club. The Ron Cubay brand was only ever intended for domestic consumption, hence the reason that we are only just seeing it in the UK with it only having a presence in Europe since around 2010.
I’m sure we have all seen the gold medals before, either on the actual bottle or for more premium offerings, on the box.
Indicating success at numerous competitions and award ceremonies. Proof beyond all proof that what you have just shelled all that money out for is the crème de la crème of the rum world.
In late 2015 a curious bottling of Trinidad rum – Providence Estate arrived on the scene from Bristol Classic Rum. It certainly caught my attention somewhat more than perhaps yet another Caroni offering.
Which turned out to be a bit of shame for me as this is in fact another Caroni Offering (we think)!
Velier are an Italian Independent bottler. One of the few bottlers that focus on rum rather than Whisky. Velier have been setting the standards for independent bottlers since the 1990’s and led by the irrepressible Luca Gargano, they are showing no signs of slowing down.
You are probably wondering (like I was) about the strange name of this rum. Velier or rather Luca individually visits and selects specific casks from Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). Then unlike many other independent bottlers the casks remain at DDL to benefit from Tropical ageing. The rum is then brought to England where it is bottled before being sold mostly to mainland Europe.
