Pusser’s Rum Spiced

Pussers Spiced Rum Navy Demerara Guyana ReviewPusser’s Spiced is probably the quickest rum purchase I have ever made.  I heard about Pusser’s updating their line of rum earlier this year and in the press release it was noted that a “Spiced” variant was in the offing.  I had waited patiently for the Spiced to go on sale and as soon as I saw it available, on Drinks Direct it was in the basket, ordered and paid with Paypal within 2 minutes! (along with the new 40% Blue Label). Gosling’s Black Seal Rum

Gosling's Black Seal Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSo Gosling’s famous Black Seal Rum. Named due to the Black Seal on the front of the black bottle? Wrong.  Oh and the bottle is clear not black – the liquid held within is black.  This is Goslings Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum.  So that must be why it is called Black Seal.? I’m afraid you’re wrong again. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Doorly’s XO Fine Old Barbados Rum

DOORLY'S XO RUM REVIEW BARBADOS SEALE BAJANDoorly’s XO Fine Old Barbados Rum.  From the house of Martin Doorly no less.  None the wiser? No me neither.  The rum is produced by R. L. Seale at the wonderful Foursquare Distillery.  So what does this Doorly fellow have to do with it exactly?

Well, in 1906 the Rum Duty Act was passed and this caused considerable changes to how rum was distributed in Barbados.  The new law meant that distilleries had to obtain a licence and could only sell rums in bulk.  Many of the distillers became bottlers instead. Of these Martin Doorly & Co.  The growth of branded names began and Martin Doorly evolved into Doorly Macaw Rum and became the first bottled rum to be exported from the island. Gosling’s Gold Bermuda Rum

Gosling's Gold Rum Review Black SealFor generation’s Gosling’s name has been synonymous with their signature Black Seal Rum.  Goslings Gold Rum was the Bermudan companies first new product in 108 years.  An answer to the cries for a lighter bodied rum, in keeping with modern times and the trend towards amber/gold mixing rums. Glen’s Dark Rum

Glens Dark Rum Review

Glen Catrine Distillers are probably not very well known outside of the UK.  The distillery is based in Catrine, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Glen’s are best known for there entry level vodka which competes somewhere in the void between supermarket vodka and Smirnoff, Russian Standard, Absolut etc.  The vodka is quite often bootlegged and a number of television programmes have warned consumers to be on the lookout for counterfeit Glen’s.  I have to say I hope the same problem hasn’t afflicted their Dark Rum as I bought this in a back street supermarket in Cyprus! Bacardi Black

Bacardi Black Rum ReviewBacardi Black.  Along with Bacardi Gold, the two rums have recently been re-released into the UK market at 40% ABV rather than 37.5%.  For whatever reason Bacardi Black is not as readily available as the White Superior or Gold.  In most supermarkets and many off licenses the White Superior and Gold can be picked up at entry-level prices.  However, the Black is largely absent from these outlets. Captain Morgan The Original Rum

Captain Morgan Rum Review Original Jamaica

This is really the signature rum for the Captain Morgan brand.  However, it is no longer its most recognised rum/spirit drink.  A lot of people recognise Morgan’s Spiced (UK) Or Captain Morgan Original/Gold Spiced Rum (USA).  There are so many differences around the world that I won’t even begin to try and explain any further variations within the Captain Morgan brand.  The UK has recently begun adopting the US style bottlings of the Spiced Rum.
