Plantation Rum, as well as offering their more usual fair have now introduced a Single Cask Collection. I was quite surprised to see a Guatemala XO as part of this collection. This is because recently Plantation stopped producing a sole Guatemalan Anejo and had begun producing a mixed Guatemala/Belize blend.
Ron Yacare is an Anejo (aged) rum from the Dominican Republic. It has been difficult to find any information regarding this rum, mainly due to this being predominantly for the Spanish speaking market.
Ron Yacare from the information on the bottle is distributed by Carrefour Supermarket group. I assume it is available in their stores, which are found mostly in France and Spain. From web searches they also produce a Honey based Ron Miel and they have a Viejo and Reserva Exclusiva expression as well. I think that Yacare is more of a brand name and I do not think all of the rums in their range come from the Dominican Republic.
Penny Blue Mauritian Rum hails from the Medine Distillery in Mauritius. The rum is brought to the UK under the watchful eye of Berry Bros. & Rudd, on of London’s premium importers of wines and spirits.
In the past there have been 4 editions of the Penny Blue. This edition is the first Single Cask rum to be released in the UK. (I understand some Single Cask editions have been available in Mauritius)
Our latest interview is with Alexander Kong (pictured in the grey jacket, alongside Gordon Clarke Co-Managing Director) who is the Export Sales Manager for the recently resurrected Worthy Park Distillery.
As you will see from the answers in this interview, since their re-birth in 2005 Worthy Park are determined to do things the right way. Their return to rum production after almost 50 years in the wilderness couldn’t have been more timely. Authentic Caribbean rum is becoming more sought after and valued by both casual rum drinkers and in particular with more seasoned rum conisseurs and aficionados.
Silver Seal Whisky Company are independent bottlers of Whisky and to a lesser extent rums. They hail from Scotland (at least this is where the rum is bottled) and their rums and whiskies are largely available online from Whisky Antique and Rhum Excellence. Italian and French websites. They aren’t readily available in the UK. Which is just typical of the ever confusing rum world.
As it is Halloween today you were probably expecting to see a Pumpkin Face or Deadhead style rum trotted out as this months Rum of the Month.
Thankfully, I don’t really go in for fancily marketed column distilled solero rums. The idea of the site is to give you all informed and knowledgeable suggestions on future rum purchases!
For those who haven’t read Part One it is here. To not read the first part will probably leave you a little confused…….
