This April, UK distributor Emporia Brands have put together a calendar of events involving its award-winning St Lucia Distillers range.
Brand Ambassador Dave Marsland will be touring four Northern cities as he brings together the Chairman’s Reserve range, which includes Gold, Spiced, White Label and Forgotten Cask, the Admiral Rodney, and the latest edition of 1931, the 4th release.
Don Q Gold along with Don Q Cristal are the entry level rums from rum producer Serralles.
Don Q hails from Puerto Rico, which is perhaps most famous in the rum world for being where Bacardi defected to at the time of the Cuban Revolution.
Don Q as a brand began in 1934 and yes, it is named after Don Quixote. This family ran concern has over 150 years of rum making experience, making its first rum sales in 1865. The Serralles family are currently in their sixth generation of rum making and are headed up by Felix J Serralles Jr. The family originally arrived in Puerto Rico around 1820 and Juan Sebastian Serralles set up the Hacienda Teresa – a sugar cane plantation.
In late 2015 a curious bottling of Trinidad rum – Providence Estate arrived on the scene from Bristol Classic Rum. It certainly caught my attention somewhat more than perhaps yet another Caroni offering.
Which turned out to be a bit of shame for me as this is in fact another Caroni Offering (we think)!
Revolver Rum is a new rum brand from the Rathlee Distilling Co. based in Cornwall on the South Coast of England.
It is a product of two rum lovers – one from Colombia and one from Cornwall. The world Revolver in this instance, is not linked to pistols or guns. It actually means in Spanish to “stir” which may give you an idea as to what direction this rum is heading in. They also mention evolving on the label which is probably another nod to using the word revolver.
The Rockley Still from which this Bristol Classic Rum takes its name is quite a mythical creature.
Fortunately for me it has been explored in great detail by Nikos Arvantis and published over at Steve James’ Rum Diaries Blog.
Bristol Classic Rum have released a good few variations of this Rockley Still 1986 distillate over the years. This bottling is a Sherry Finish and more specifically an Oloroso Sherry finish.
The Rum Swedes Barbados 2000 hails from the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) who are responsible for the Cockspur brand.
The Rum Swedes brand is part of Svenksa Eldvatten (Swedish Firewater). They are independent bottlers of Whisky, Rum and Gin. Ran by Tommy Andersen and Peter Sjögren,who both have a long history with Scotch Whisky.
