I’ve been asked a few times recently why I’m not supporting the Gargano Rum Classification.  By support, I assume people are wondering why I haven’t featured the classification on the site? Or why I haven’t adopted it in my reviews?

Fact is, I have for a long time tried whenever possible to find out how the rum in my bottle has been produced.  Which is exactly what the Gargano Rum Classification involves. Rum is Fun but it isn’t Dumb….not anymore

Rum is FunRum is Fun so the mantra goes.  I once asked Dave Broom if rum needed to lose its “fun” tag to improve its image.  Dave’s overwhelming response was a very definite no.  He has even mentioned me posing the question in his latest rum book The Manual.

Dave believes that rum should keep its “fun” tag as it makes people smile when they think of it.  He also felt that when Scotch Whisky forgot about “fun” the industry entered two decades of decline. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Old Spirits Company is ran by spirits and cocktail enthusiast Edgar Harden.  It offers buyers the chance to buy scarce and hard to find bottlings from years gone by.  The Old Spirits Company sells aged spirits as in bottled a long time ago rather than distilled a long time ago.  Though in some instances both does apply! The Rum Festival Newcastle 28th and 29th April 2017

RUM FESTIVAL Review by the fat rum pirateThe Rum Festival Newcastle was one of the events organised by Lucy Douglas and her team.  Lucy is behind a travelling Rum Festival. Visiting towns and cities throughout the UK during 2017.

The Festival took place at Hoult’s Yard a office/create hub/venue just 5 minutes drive from Newcastle City Centre in Byker. Yes that Byker of Byker Grove fame.  No before you ask Ant and Dec weren’t in attendance. Neither was Jimmy Nail, Sting or Gazza. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Serge’s pocket sized reviews and commitment to the website mean that he publishes hundreds of notes every month. New reviews are published pretty much on a daily basis.  Accurate, interesting tasting notes and an almost immediate assessment has ensured the sites popularity.
